Hi,

I have an old 80's camcorder that has an RF converter box.  When I hook that up to a regular old TV's coax input, I can see the video on channel 3 or 4, depending on what I select.

Now, I am trying to use NextVPR and my Hauppage 950Q (a USB TV tuner card) to record this signal.  The device drivers have been installed and I see the device in NextVPR. I have installed the LAV video/audio decoders for MPEG.  When I try to set up my device, whether I try ATSC, QAM, or IPTV, I am unable to get a lock on the channel that I'm broadcasting on, i.e., it scans right past channel 4 when I'm playing the video.  Am I missing something?  I wouldn't think I need to amplify the signal (with a VCR or something with an integrated RF converter) because my TV uses it just fine, or is that not a good assumption?  \

Edit: in case it matters for the scanning routine, it's a black and white video camera (the Fisher Price PXL 2000) that also leaves a large black border around the edges.

I'd be grateful for any help, thanks.

If you install the Hauppauge WinTV software, you should see another Analog device listed, which can be used for capturing video from this type of device.

Is that the problem?  The software costs money and I figured the drivers would work fine.  So I have to shell out the 10 bucks for the analog driver?  Are there no generic drivers?

When it comes to analog video capture, it reuses part of the WinTV software that came with your Hauppauge device. (sounds like you've lost your CD though)

Honestly though "80's camcorder that has an RF converter box" isn't really sounding like NextPVR is the right software for you. NextPVR is about recording television broadcasts. It's not about dubbing videos from camcorders etc - there is definitely other software out there better suited to this task.

Fair enough, but the only one I've seen recommended is WinTV.  Do you have any other recommendations?

I think WinTV would be a better choice then a full PVR. Is the $10 saved after losing the CD really worth a couple of hours of configuration and frustration to get to an inferior solution.

You might be lucky and see the device in VLC under Media Open Capture Device if the drivers were previously loads.

Martin.

Thank you.  I do in fact see the device in VLC, but I'm having trouble getting it to work.  Do you think it's still an issue of not having the right analog signal driver installed?

Have you tried the trial version of Corel VideoStudio?

The driver for your 950Q is probably fine. What hasn't been clearly stated is that NextPVR has no native support for analog. It can use the SoftPVR components of Hauppauge's WinTV software if present. Many years ago, I used a very old version of Cyberlink PowerDirector to capture VHS video via a Hauppauge card. Sorry, but I have no idea whether analog capture is still a feature of current Cyberlink versions, nor have I ever attempted to capture analog video using VLC (although that is certainly worth a try).

SoftPVR is required for ts conversion in NextPVR v4 not for VLC and the fact that you are seeing the device is positive. You might need to open the source to make sure you are picking the correct channel and signal type.
