CyberLink decoder in GBPVR

Hello all GBPVR's!

Now I've searched this forum for a long time, but I can't find an answer for my problem.

I've installed CyberLink PowerDVD and codecs for utilizing the mpeg2 hardware decoder on the VIA SP13000 MB. When I play back mpeg2 files in PowerDVD-player, the CPU-load is 10-20% (Before installing it was about 50-80 in windows media player & intervideo WinDVD), but when I use GBPVR as player, the CPU-load is 50-80%. I've set software decoder to Cyberlink Video/SP decoder (and audio), using Overlay (since the cyberlink codec didn't support VMR!?) not using FFDShow or deinterlacing. DirectX9.0b is installed (seen issues about 9.0c quartz.dll). It seems that GBPVR don't set the hardware acceleration for the cyberlink decoder, because when I disable this future in PowerDVD the CPU-load is about the same as in GBPVR.

Do anyone have some tips for this? Maybe have had the same issue and solved it?

GB-PVR doesnt know anything about hardware acceleration. This is all taken care of inside the video decoder, or 'not' in your case.

When I previously owned a EPIA board, there was an option inside WinDVD which allowed be to set the 'use hardware accelleration'. After setting this, the CPU was automatically reduce in all apps that used that decoder.

Cool, I did not know this. I have about 50-70% cpu load, too. Could be nice to make it lower if possible. I'll see if I can find this option :-)

I've enabled the "use hardware accelleration" future in PowerDVD, and it works fine when using PowerDVD as player, CPU-load drops 40-60%, but when I set to use the same decoder in GBPVR, it's just i bit drop in the CPU-load (maybe 5% or less..). Hmm.. It seems that GBPVR don't use the decoder at all.. I've tried now with software decoder set to default, and the CPU-load is about the same!?! Try to download the windows program that checks the default decoder.. Somethings fishy here

In my experience it only dropped the CPU by about 10 - 15%, but you could very clearly see the difference in CPU usage when it was on versus off. From memory it was like 85% CPU down to about 70% for my particular setup. I never saw anything like the 40% you mention regardless of app (including PowerDVD), but that was two years ago and things may have improved. That machine is now a linux file server running in the closet...too slow for any practical PVR usage in my book.

As I said though, GB-PVR doesnt know anything about the inner workings of these decoders. It has no say over decoder user hardware accelleration features or not.

Thanx! Maybe PowerDVD sets the "use hardware accelleration" when I starts the PowerDVD player and not changing anything in the "decoder setup", so when I use the decoder in GBPVR it just use the default decoder setup (without hardware accelleration)... Hmm.. I will try to "fidlearound" a bit with different setups..

I've googled around a bit in regedit, and found the cyberlink reg. There was a UIUseHVA that was 0, when I changed it to 1, nothing happend to the CPU-load in GBPVR. I googled around a bit more and found under HKCU:Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLAud that GBPVR had an own entry, but didn't have it under CLVSD, just copied what was under iexplorer(under same reg) and made a entry called GBPVR. When I then startet GBPVR the CPU-load dropped down to 10-25%!!! I did too much at the same time, and wonder if I could remove some of the reg-entries I just had put in: finally I'd deleted all (even the new GBPVR reg under CLVSD) And it stills works great playing mpeg2 movies with CPU-load at 10-25%.

I really don't know why it didn't work when I'd installed the cyberlink codec, but after fiddeling in the registry, and finally coming back to the exact same setup that I had before I startet messing, it works great!!

This was a little mysteri for me, but who cares as long as it works!!

(WARNING: Don't mess to much with the registry if you don't know what U doing! And ALWAYS take a backup of the registry before starting messing around, so that U can set it back if something really goes bad)

That's really strange. I too fiddled around in the registry and suddenly gbpvr used as little cpu while playing a dvd as poerdvd. (Then I changed something and now it's not working any longer) :-(

Reinstalled PowerDVD and the latest patch, added UIUseHVA 1 to HKCU:Software\Cyberlink\Common\CLVSD an now everything works like a charm.
