How to convert automatically MPEG2 to WMV/XviD/DivX

I am wondering how the new functionality to automatically convert MPEG2s to WMV/XviD/DivX works.

Does this mean that the conversion takes place at the same time of capturing to MPEG2?

I would really appreciate some help on this as almost all my captures are subsequently converted to Divx and the new functionality if it works the way I have understood it will save me a lot of trouble.

You can configure it to either happen immediately after the recording has completed, or at some point in the middle of the night when your machine is not being used for much. It is quite CPU intensive, which is why I give the option to do the conversion overnight.

Automatic conversion to divx seem quirky to me. Converting to XVid or WMV seem to work much better. I couldnt get it to work with Divx 6.0, but it did work for me with divx 5.4.2(?). Most of my testing focus on XViD and WMV.

I am new to the PVR game. What plug-in/program do you use to convert mpeg2 to xvid etc? I am in need because an hour of tv in mpeg2 is rather large.

There is built in functionality to do this. See the 'processing' tab of the config.

This feature has only been introduced a couple of weeks ago, so its still pretty experimental.

Sub, is the processing done in a low priority so it has less chance of interfering with ongoing recordings?

So I downloaded the new version of gb-pvr and enabled comskip.exe in the processsing tab, along with selecting Divx 5.2.1 codec but nothing happens (checked wake machine and delete previous recording). I set the scheduling to occur at 2am to 6am. Does something else have to be enabled for the comskip and divx conversion to occur?

For starters you need to make sure you have the comskip.exe file in the GBPVR directory. Then once you record something it will run comskip after it has finished recording and then between 2am and 6am it will start transcoding all of your mpeg files to DIVX. I've read using the DIVX code is problematic and you are better off trying to use the XVid codec. You should also post your GBPVR convert logs for the people to look over.

That line you see below the options (same line as above) means you need to buy/install this codec, and then install it for this functionality to work. You can get a trial copy to see if you like it off Elecard's website.
