Since "upgrading" to Version 5 I have tried and failed to get this working on windows, Linux and Android devices.
Nothing has changed on that front. You can absolutely do that. NextPVR v5 is a better server for Kodi clients than v4 was.

Not for me it doesn't.

Or rather it works from the local machine that the backend is running on, but will not work from any other connected IP address (in the same workgroup, subnet, etc)

Are you using the correct NextPVR PIN in Kodi?

Then you need to submit a real support post as Graham explained. The interface is always network based even on localhost and the new information proves it is working even for you.

I'd start with any local irewall, a/v and any VPN rules that might not be letting the new application connect outside on port 8866

OK, but am just tied up with something else for the moment and will put it on the list.

It's just very odd that 4 different approaches running on 3 different OSs all fail to connect.  And there's no firewall, or VPN or SSH or other remote access issues involved whatsoever.

Having said all that I can't ping the port from another machine, and NextPVR does not show up in the windows firewall applications!

Anyone know offhand what app & x64 location I should be allowing through, or am I just supposed to be exposing the port?

You shouldn't be able to ping on port 8866 from any machine it is a different protocol. The test would be from a browser remote.

Although you said you had no firewall or a/v so there is no port to open you need to open port 8866 tcp inbound for NextPVRServer.exe and 16891 udp if you want auto discovery. The Windows installer will be more liberal and open them up for all tcp/udp

Thanks.

I installed via the windows installer, and I assumed that it would open the ports that needed to be open.

But according to Windows firewall there is nothing open on 8866.

And as I mentioned earlier there is no rule created for any NextPVR related application name.  Could it be called something else?

BTW trying from a remote browser  - which I had done before - just hangs in the same way as kodi clients, and NPVR.log shows nothing happening.

Have you tried a test with the firewall turned off to be sure that this is the problem?

My firewal shows ...
