Yes the history can be controlled and the default is 90 days

<DeletionHistoryDays>90</DeletionHistoryDays>

Also consider upgrading to v5 it is a pain to try and interpret two log formats and the sooner users do it the better.

Thanks for the info -

I installed 5 but couldn't get it running with my settings from 4.2.5, couldn't get the recording service running among other issues.

Had to uninstall 5 and restore 4.2.5 from a backup.

Thanks again for all the help.

I am pretty sure it is a configuration issue that could have been resolved. V4 is effectively dead so as long as you are happy with it great, but if you want future improvements you will eventually need to upgrade.

It was just yesterday I attempted to use v5 and encountered the problem so doubt the issue has been resolved. One possible source of the issue I had of not being able to start the recording service with v5 may be due to my use of a network drive for recording - to obtain access to the network drive I start the recording service using a user name different than the name I'm logged on under. Worked fine with v4 but who knows with v5?

I'll try using v5 on a different windows machine. Is there any way to force v4 and v5 to "co-exist" on the same machine for testing purposes?

Yes setting the username on the v5 service does the same thing as in v4.

For coexistance change the web port on one of your servers most people choose 8867.

Are you trying to use a mapped drive for your network drive?
There are some challenges with using mapped Network drives with the V5 recording service as the service starts before user logon so has a different session Id than the user.
Using UNC paths instead. ie, \\server\share\ seems better than mapped drives.
NPVR Version= 7.0.1.241229

Thanks again for the reply -

Won't both versions default to using the same ..users/public/NPVR files causing an issue.

Since this has gone way beyond "Recurring recording problem(s)" you should probably close this thread out.

For my next message to you I'll start a new thread using something like "v4 - v5 transitioning issues" if i'm unable to find an existing thread to use.

Thanks for the reply - I do use the the UNC path.
