I agree with sub, it's down to selecting the right combination of drivers that GBPVR uses. It's a p.i.t.a. and it takes a while, but once you've got the right combination of drivers GBPVR works great.

My tip is don't overlook the audio drivers when playing with the setup as that seemed to be a great route for sorting my problems out.

Seeing as this is a Sticky Thread, I thought I'd post this again, from a response to a previous thread. I've been through this quartz.dll swap issue and I'd just like to alert folks to the fact that:

1. There appears to be (at least) THREE "old" quartz.dll's, ALL vers 6.05.01.0902's a 1.87MB one, a 1.78MB one and a 1.18 MB one, from dll-files.com.

If yours is going well i.e. reduced/no stutters as a result of this fix, it would be great for other folks looking at this if you could go back and edit your post and say exactly which version (as noted in right click quartz.dll properties, rather than just waht the toolbar states).

2. The 6.05.2600.2508 version from my original DX9C install was 1.22MB.

3. The 6.05.2600.2180 from my 9C install appears to be 1.22MB.

4. I recently installed the DX9 SDK and I "think" Microsoft MAY have fiddled with it again. It reports a 6.05.2600.2578 version of 1.22MB in size.

The one that is linked to from earlier in this thread is the
6.05.01.0902 version and is 1.87MB

All versions and file sizes as quoted by "right click", properties.

Cheers

Just thought I'd post my fix here
I had the same problem of GBPVR playing MPEG2 rather bad. I was comparing with playback in Media Player Classic and Sasami2K.
After reading this thread, I thought about trying in Media Player 9, and bingo, same bad results as GBPVR.
I had the correct quartz.dll (even though I have DirectX9.0c, go figure)
I removed the AC3 filter, didn't solve it.
I disabled FFDshow, didn't solve it
After a while, I checked in graphedit, and saw that it was using a Ligos MPEG2 decoder from when I installed WinDVD a looooooooooooooooong time ago. It was also still using FFDshow (yikes!)
A little regsrv32 -u and the name of the codec files, reboot, and voilà, MPEG2s plays nice in media player 9 and in GBPVR

I wonder if it's just me, but the FFDshow codec has been nothing but problems since I installed it.

EDIT: I have the 6.05.01.0902's 1.87MB quartz.dll

thanks sub for the good post..if anyone has the theater 550/radeon/audigy 2 and has codecs that work well for them please let me know...everything else about the program i really do love, i just wish i could get dependable recordings.

i get perfect video/audio with media portal with the default settings but it's EPG is horrible and when i set up recording they simply don't record to the hard drive...the only problem i'm having as of right now with gbpvr is jerky audio and sometimes video..i wish i could get the video/audio performance of media portal and stuff that in gbpvr Smile.

and where exactly do I set the codecs for live tv? i know in the setup you can set playback codecs..is this is the same it uses when watching the live tv? I would think when i installed media portal those codecs would become available to choose in gbpvr...i'll see if i can manually download them...they use Media2Dec Filter for video codec and MPEG/AC3/DTS/LPCM Audio Decoder for the Audio codec...i suppose i'll try manually downloading those and see if they become available to me in gbpvr..

thanks again.

After reading this thread, I was wondering if there is a tool (GraphEdit, maybe???) that can tell which codec is used by default for decoding MPEG2 files, and maybe even change the default to some other codec???

I think this would be a very good Debugging tool to have...

You can change the Windows Xp default (which is also teh GBPVR default is no defiend codec is chosen) using Windows Dec Checker. See this thread for d/l links

GSpot will tell you which codecs will be used by the system for any video file type.
