My wife says she's seen this happen since we switched from Windows/v4.25 to Linux/v5, first time for me.

I was watching a recording from some time ago, about 32 minutes into a 60 minute recording and the video playback disappeared leaving me with the folder view (under Videos), but the audio playback continued.  There's a lot of "stops" in the log file around 20:47 which would have been about right and you can see where I actually pressed the "stop" button on the remote which stopped the audio playback.  I was able to restart the video, but not given the resume/restart option.

I think the event spanned the current and previous log files.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
-Brad

Without the kodi debug log there is nothing to look at as I have tried to explain. Is this a pc client?

Yes, PC client, running Kodi on the NextPVR server (127.0.0.1).  Sorry, I meant to include that bit of info originally.

Kodi logs attached.  Debug was not on so hopefully it's still worth something.

Typically I would need the debug log, you should consider using the advancedsettings.xml method to create the logs with no impact on the UI if you expect on going issues.

These logs seem to indicate a Kodi problem with VDPAU and also with the timestamps in the file. I can't tell how are why the problem occurred but that I suspect the file itself is the biggest source of the problem.

You are also using an older version of Kodi 17.6 v18 has been out for almost 2 years and v19 is about to go to beta.

I did upgrade to Kodi v18.9. Initially I just installed what was in the Mint repo.

Even with v18.9, Kodi and knewc are very unstable on this computer (my Mint Server), knewc exits to Kodi a lot on it's own, and Kodi has been crashing as well.

The recording files are a mix of previous v4.25 recordings and new v5 recordings. They don't seem to cause many issues playing on Kodi-knewc on my ODroids, will as the wife about the RPi.

As for running knewc on the server, I disabled VDPAU in Kodi guisetting.xml, we'll see if that helps.

Thanks,
-Brad

Typically on linux remember that only Ubuntu is officially supported by Kodi.

For knewc I would expect problems with disappearing video if you ever use the mouse or keyboard an not a remote. Kodi does allow video to play under a UI.

NextPVR exe is not fully stable for me on Windows especially on stopping so that is a still a problem area for sub.

Other than that without logs there are no problems AFAIK

Thanks Martin, good to know. Mint is Ubuntu-based, so hopefully that plays in my favor. I have been running Kodi and XNEWA/knewc on my various Mint laptops since 2013 without any real issues, but using my laptop as a client was a much less frequent occurrence than using it on the server as the primary client in the family room where it gets used multiple times per day.

I do use a keyboard on this PC, but only for admin/working on the setup, or web browsing. We use the remote in Kodi. Although the remote goes through a Flirc IR-USB dongle and I have the modified settings in keyboard.xml, so perhaps it's really no different as far as Kodi knows.

I'll keep track of performance now with VDPAU disabled, if we continue to have problems I'll get some debug logs to post.

Thanks much for your help!

-Brad

Many distros are Debian (Ubuntu) based but that doesn't mean the don't recompile their modules manually. Kodi for Debian sucks.

As long as you don't give the Kodi UI focus you should be ok. That is possible if you use the Back key a lot.

It happened again with VDPAU disabled in Kodi settings. I'm not great at deciphering the log files, but found mention of VAAPI right before the time it happened. A quick search says this is a video acceleration API, which I also found in Kodi settings so I'm going to try disabling that as well.

This continues to be an issue for me. I did go back into Kodi guisettings.xml and found that both VDPAU and VAAPI had reset to "true" somehow. I had changed the xml originally with Kodi shutdown and verified that the settings did not change when I restarted Kodi, but it appears something changed those settings. I did some poking around in the settings in the Kodi GUI and changed a few things, so perhaps something I did there reset these settings.
