Hello, what's the best way to backup and restore the channel order/numbers? The frequencies may change upon a rescan... I just want a way to rescan all the channels but instead of manually typing in all the numbers again (which takes ages as I've loads of channels), a more automated / quicker way to restore a particular channel name(s) to a specific number(s).

Ideally, when I do a rescan (as channels move frequencies sometimes), it would overwrite the existing channels WITHOUT replacing the channel numbers I have previously painstakingly rearranged.

There is no official way to back up just the channels. You can backup the npvr.db3 database file in case you have problems and and need to restore it.

Generally rescanning shouldn't break your channel numbers etc. Existing channels will be left in place, with existing channel names/numbers etc, and only new channels added.

Hi, thanks for replying.

That's not the case, rescanning, every time, replaces (and messes up) my existing channel order / numbers.

In the UK ... Channel changes are often accompanied by a period when a channel exists in two places at the same time.  The sequence appears to be something like ...

Channel A is on Frequency/Mux 1
Channel A moves to Frequency/Mux 2 and the old Channel A continues to broadcast on Frequency/Mux 1 but, perhaps, broadcasts only a blank screen.
A few days later ... Channel A stops broadcasting on Frequency/Mux 1

I also found that NextPVR (V4) gets in a pickle when channels change.  I suspect that NextPVR does not cope well with some idiosyncrasy in UK retune events.

Somebody that is using V5 needs to make copies of npvr.db3 before and after a rescan/retune so that Sub can see what is going on (hint).

What is your source? A DVB tuner? IPTV?

It'd be good to get a copy of the database before and after a scan, and the log files showing the scan.

DVB Tuner in the UK.

This occurs even when frequencies/mux change. It happens EVERY time I hit rescan. I could do it 2 minutes later and it loses the channel order.

I can do that but it happens every time I hit rescan (and then save with the channels ticked).

Do I have to do it and hit save with the channels ticked or do I just need to hit rescan then "cancel"? - I'm asking because if I do the former, it'll screw up 123 of the channels I have and it's a nightmare to type in all the absolute numbers again for each channel. Even dragging the channels or some simple up/down buttons would even speed up resorting.

It's probably best to go through the whole process, including hitting 'save'. You can backup your npvr.db3 file first though, and restore it after, and you'll be back to where you started.

Ok I’ll do that and post everything back soon.

BTW - for the UK there are four confusing tuner settings...

1. United Kingdom - Post 700 MHz
2. United Kingdom - After 700 MHz
3. United Kingdom - numerous regions but can’t seem to find mine
4. All countries / All regions

Which is the best one out of the four?

What is the difference between 1 and 2? - the HD channels seem to on different frequencies with this setting.

Any idea how I can find the correct transmitter? - if this is the best setting?
