Okay, weird. The error above was shown in Recordings-What's New list, but if I open the folder the recording file is there. It did start 3 minutes late (12:02pm) when the EPG showed 12-1pm and the recording was set up with 1 min pre-padding and 2 min post-padding.

Those logs are for last week.

UI client is really spammy and are useless for debugging. Exiting knewc will help

Mmmm, used the same file name prefix before I guess.  Here's the logs from today, for what it's worth.

Knewc is running on four clients, so there's no way to reduce/suppress UI log messages?

Here's the logs of the same issue, same daily recording, seems to do it every day.  "House: Runaways" @ 12-1pm.

So the error displayed in the UI under Recordings-What's New (topic title) is different than what I found in nrecord.log.1
"Failed to start recording on allocated device... operation has timed out."

I guess the timeout and search for backup device probably explains why it's starting 3 minutes late.

I just did a channel-delete and rescan of all my tuners, why would this be failing?

Pretty much the same answer as before. Running all those knewc instances and the kodi pvr addons mean there is too much spam in the logs to help much but it looks like both your tuners failed a while back and the tuning app doesn't seem to handle it well.

Does the 'FOX 9' channel generally work? Most of your channels seem to be up in the UHF frequency range, but this one is down in the VHF range.

It does looks like the device failed at some point, and NextPVR wasn't sure what to do about it. ie, depending on how it failed, it might have been able to restart some components, or might have needed a reboot.

So we have Fox 9 = 9.1, which shows up in our EPG with the call letters WFTC, and Fox 9+ = 9.2.  If I scroll through "Recordings - What's New" and pick recordings on those two stations they play fine.

I can do a reboot.  Is there any way to know the device failed (driver crash?) or are recording error messages the thing to look for?

Honestly, we don't know for sure that was the case, but I'm guessing these "dvb_fe_set_parms failed" log messages are indicating a problem setting the tuning information in the device.

The scenario I keep seeing failures on are back-to-back recording in these logs and in others.

My gut says something is happening out of sequence on the tuning/stop causing an issue.

I can't say that sequencing is NOT part of the problem, but that recurring recording of "House" from 12-1pm is the first recurring recording of the day, and there was nothing else recording before that today or any other week day, per the TV Guide anyway.

I rebooted the server, uptime was less than 7 days. Watching Live TV from the TV Guide in kodi-knewc works now. Previously it would just timeout. But "Watch Now" worked from the NextPVR web interface TV Guide before the reboot.

I also disabled the PVR add-on in all Kodi Clients, so hopefully the reduces the log file entries.

Thanks,
-Brad
