freesat setup query

That seems to be most of the "England" regions the most obvious missing is Isle of Man and Channel Islands. There is a Scotland set also but dont know if there is a Wales or Northern Ireland set as well.

Its based on the coverage of terrestrial transmitters. Some regions are covered by several transmitters all shared by all broadcasters but sometimes ITV companies grouped different transmitters into their own group quite different to BBC regions. Now ITV is just one company some ITV regions have changed  and some regions are no longer used!!

When I let it run a little longer, it did pick up those extra regions.

I came to this thread wondering if I needed to adjust my epg configuration to pick up Freesat UK EPG.
Previously I used xmltx EPG Collector for this. I realised the frequency I settled on for that - as it gave me very good/full epg - is quite different to the list in the NextPVR web client:

You can set a single channel to get its EPG from FreeSat and then press Update EPG and NextPVR will obtain FreeSat EPG as if all channels were set to FreeSat EPG.

Is there any way to use the EPG from "Channel 4" (freesat source) and dump it on "Channel 4 HD" (no EPG on freesat)

If I set the "Channel 4 HD" EPG source to "DVB/ATSC EPG", then it just picks up the two EPG entries either side of the current time.


Obviously the correct solution is the second one.

I've tried scanning for longer, but the setting for scan time up to 120s doesn't seem to work, it still scans for 60s only.

I also checked that the other channel on that frequency that "Channel 4 HD" uses was set to use "DVB/ATSC EPG", but that didn't seem to make a difference either.


Any help much appreciated.

I suspect that "DVB/ATSC EPG" obtains its data from from the DVB-T / terrestrial broadcast stream.

Are you able to add FreeSat as an EPG source at NextPVR Settings -> Guide?

My setup is a TBS dual sat card with one input operating on a single head satellite LMB. The other input to the card is unconnected and disabled within NextPVR.

There is no terrestrial capability for me to be getting anything from that. However the DVB/ATSC EPG is definitely scraping EPG data from the freesat, just not much of it (now and next only)

I can't see why the Channel 4 data from the Freesat EPG can't just be applied to the Channel 4 HD guide. There just needs to be a way to tell the thing that injects EPG data against a channel UID, to do it to another channel UID at the same time... or something.
The web UI is a bit basic for setting things up. Looking in the sqlite db it's obvious there is a lot of scope for tweaking things on a finer grained level.

There has been discussion about the FreeSat EPG in the past and I can't remember where we are at.  I was wondering if I didn't see FreeSat as an EPG option because I don't have a FreeSat tuner ... but it appears that DVB/ATSC is DVB-T and DVB-S.

My understanding is that the complete FreeSat EPG is on a single dedicated transponder.

Yes it seems if any single channel in your list has Freesat EPG selected, then a specific scan of a specific frequency is undertaken to grab the required data and apply it to the relevant channels.

However, "Freesat" don't provide an EPG for Channel 4 HD, just for Channel 4... they are otherwise identical channels. Just Channel 4 didn't want to pay Freesat operators to have a HD channel listed.


My problem is that the normal DVB-S EPG scanning is just getting essentially the now and next data, so is useless.

However, the Freesat data is working mostly fine.

So if I can just use the Freesat data for Channel 4, on Channel 4 HD, I'd be doing ok.


Obviously I'm stuck between a buggy EPG (or badly configured EPG), and Freesat hard-coding and other stuff here haha.


It'd be nice if this was better documented. I assume for 95% of UK users then this Freesat procedure would cover off their needs in one pass.


Just messing with settings. I set all channels to Freesat UK EPG and now it's stopped grabbing any data at all.

Cleared the EPG. Refreshed. 0 added updated etc...

Oh dear. Lol.

I assume everyone else has got this working fine in the UK?

Care to just share your database file?

The Freesat Transponder is 11428 V 27500 2/3

I download using EPG Collector and import the XMLTV file into NextPVR. That has the added advantage that I can set Channel 4 HD to use Channel 4 EPG as the source.
