I can post more complete logs if needed, just let me know. I had more originally, but had to shorten what I posted because I exceeded the 10k? character limit of the post.

Thanks,
-Brad

We continue to have the NextPVR server crash, seems like every few days.

Tonight's seemed different.  I was watching a recording in the office and my wife was about to start a recording in the bedroom (both ODroids with Kodi-knewc).  She had knewc close, as did I, but the video playback was still going in the background of the Kodi UI and the audio continued as well.  The server had crashed though as neither ODroid could connect to the server IP with knewc.  I don't think I've seen it where the playback continued with the server down before, but maybe I just wasn't paying that close of attention before.

Server logs attached.  Office ODroid logs here: http://ix/io/2OMB

Thanks,
-Brad

Hey, Brad. Greetings from St. Paul. Smile

Do you have kodi/knewc configured with advancedsettings to do path substitution so that edl files get used? If so, then the kodi player is reading the source file directly not via the NextPVR server. And I would expect it to continue playing until the end of that file (or until you stop the playback).

You don't even need path substitution on localhost. If the player is working and the server is down knewc would have exited too. If that is the case you should have been able to get the player screen to come into the the foreground.

Hello Brett and greetings from the same tundra!  Smile

I did have the ODroid which continued playback in the Kodi background configured with the path substitution when I was running NextPVR v4.25 on Windows, but I just checked and those lines are commented out in the advancedsetttings.xml file.  However comskip is working in knewc on this ODroid without it.  In fact I apparently never set up Samba to share the recordings folders on my v5 server on Linux, so apparently it's working on all three of my ODroids and my one RPi4 without it.  Huh  I haven't run Kodi on my other clients in a while, but I thought I had at least tested them last Fall when I first transitioned to a Linux server.  Now I'm curious, I'll have to test (or re-test) those tonight.

Thanks,
-Brad

Thanks Martin.  We do use the local client a lot, but I was actually using an ODroid last night.  This scenario seemed different to me, but again maybe I should be digging in and checking more right when this happens.  If anyone knows of things I can check (say, before the STOP button is pressed in the affected client) I'm happy to do so and provide whatever info I can.  I know you and sub have both looked into this and there doesn't seem to be anything obvious that you've found.

The related (I think) scenarios we've noticed are:

1.  Video playback ends/disappears and audio continues playing, the display shows knewc UI in Video Library, TV Guide, Recordings, etc. (where ever playback was launched from).  This happens on the ODroids, RPi4, and local Kodi client.  Someone (you or Brett?) suggested the video is likely playing in the background behind the knewc UI, but I'm not sure how to tell.
2.  Knewc UI crashes/ends, audio continues playing, and the display shows the video playback playing "ghosted" behind the Kodi UI.  This happens on the ODroids, RPi4, and local Kodi client.
3.  NextPVR server crashes, knewc UI closes, the display shows the Kodi UI.  Knewc won't restart until the server is restarted (this is how we know the server crashed).  This happens on the ODroids, RPi4, and local Kodi client.
4.  Kodi/knewc crashes, and we are left with the Linux desktop.  This happens on the local client only.  Kodi and knewc restart, so server is still running.
5.  NextPVR server crashes, Kodi/knewc crashes, and we are left with the Linux desktop.  This happens on the local client only.  Kodi will restart, but knewc will not until we restart the server.

I'm sure you are aware of the other thread I started about the video/audio issue.  I thought they were separate issues, and maybe they are, but maybe in troubleshooting the issue it will help to keep both in mind.
https://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?tid=61812

I don't know if this summary helps or adds confusion.  Let me know if there is other info I can provide.

Thanks,
-Brad

We know the server is crashing on bad graphic drawing. We also know that the server will stop turning of the the hid OSD flag, it is not as bad as it was before the last patch but it will happen.

Sub hasn't responded to either situation and since you haven't taken up my option to use the Kodi pvr addon I assume you are planning on living with this issue until sub responds. There is no confusion there is nothing more I can do.

Thanks Martin.  So not surprisingly, the confusion is just on my end.

The boss doesn't like change.  One of the things she has LOVED about GB/NextPVR is how well the UI was designed and how little it has changed, unlike most tech these days that seem to change for the sake of change.  I appreciate all that you've done to keep that look and feel going on Kodi.

I did show her some screen shots of the Kodi PVR addon, but she wasn't too interested.  I could set up a client on an old RPi and push her to try it.

Thanks,
-Brad
