Has anyone tried it and see if it works via crossover to PC instead of the regular PC-HUB?

I think you'll need a DHCP service running somewhere to assign an IP to the MVP. But I may be wrong.
WIN 7

1 X PVR 500
1 X HD-PVR
2 X MVP
2 X PCH A100

Don't believe you need a specific IP address, are you sure?

Just wanted to clarify it, there's no point in clouding the issue is there - laptops, mini switches, hotel beds?[Image: rock.gif] [Image: biggrin.gif]

to be quite clear it works fine with a cross over cable

as somebody else said you do need a dhcp server on your network
but if you are using xp and have another network card then configure it for internet connection sharing and xp will then act as a dhcp server

I want to do the exact thing this thread is describing. I use a wireless pci card to connect to the internet and I have an unused ethernet card in pc that i want to connect the mvp to via a cross over cable. Could anyone give me any detailed instructions about how to set this up. I'm not exactly sure how to set up a dchp server or internet connection sharing. Thanks

I bought my first MVP yesterday and decided to tried it using a crossover cable. I didn't install any of the Hauppauge software, I just followed the instructions in the box for using a direct crossover which detailed assigning an ip address of 192.168.1.1. I spent half an hour trying to get it to work before searching this site and finding this thread.

Tipsters suggestion of using ip address 192.160.1.10 got everything working fine (After I confirmed to Norton Firewall to permit connections). I don't have a dhcp server on my PC (I do on my router which I'll try next)

The steps I took were:
1. Set number of MVP servers to 1 in GBPVR Config (under playback tab)
2. Modify "Local Area Connection" tcp/ip properties to "Use the following address" - 192.160.1.10 (Subnet mask defaults to 255.255.255.0)
3. Plug in all wires for the MVP and turn on.

I hope this helps others.

OK, i have my gb-pvr running on a windows 2003 server. i have one mvp connected via wireless and it works fine. i purchased a 2nd mvp and want to connect it directly to my server via a crossover cable to a 2nd NIC. Well, the NIC shows it's status as being connected when i assign it a static IP but mvp will not boot to it. I've using dhcp and the nic will only pick up a local address. i've tried assigning a static ip and i've tried assigning it the same ip that the mvp picks up when i connect it to my router.

How do i get this MVP connected via crossover? I don't have a dhcp server because dhcp comes from my router.

please help me.

Adam:

Not sure, but this might work:

I assume your server has NIC 1 connected to the wireless router, either by wireless or by cable, so it has an IP allocated by DHCP in the same subnet as the wireless MVP.

NIC 2 will have to be given an IP in the same subnet, but one that the DHCP server does not want to allocate. Most wireless routers are configured to only allocate a small range of addresses. Pick a number out of at this range, say xxx.xxx.xxx.200, where xxx.xxx.xxx. is the first 3 groups of the subnet your WLAN uses.

Now tell Win server 2003 to bridge the connections:
Satrt/Control Panel/Network Connections.
Select the two networks and right click, Bridge Connections. This should make NIC 1 the default router for NIC 2, so the 2nd MVP will get an IP address from the router via NIC2 -> NIC1. Now it should be able to connect to GB-PVR servers.

Best of Luck.

i thought it might be faster if i connected directly via crossover but i have been unable to get it to work so i've given up and connected directly to my router
