Remotes for uidroid

Oddly enough I've just discovered the remote from my Toshiba TV might be my best choice. I'd never worked out how this worked with my TY but it had to be BT or WiFi as I don't have to point directly towards the TV.

I enabled BT on my generic Android TV box and sure enough the TV remote controls it. It's a nice familiar remote so I think I'll stick with it. I'd bought a G20S Pro Plus to try out - nice remote but the Tosh one adds a few things. If I select Netflix  or Prime it switches back to the TV and the apps on that.

The trouble with Bluetooth remotes are they can't typically be connected to two devices so you might lose connection to the TV. If not you are quite lucky.

I haven't tried everything but here's what I found out...

TV and Android off (standby) I use the standby button on the TV remote and the TV wakes up and behaves normally with the remote.

Press  the standby on the basic IR remote which came with the Android box - TV automatically switches to the HDMI input for the box. Also a TV popup OSD message comes up saying something like "The remote will now control the device connected to this HDMI port. Long press 0 to return control to TV" At this point DPAD, num keys,  ff/rw, play, stop and pause all control the android box When I use the DPAD to select Ui Droid, the same keys work fine with npvr.

Press the volume keys on the remote cause a TV popup OSD to control the TV volume. Press the SRC button allows me to select other TV ports (i.e., HDMI) and selecting another device the remote reverts to TV and I need to use the other device's remote (Tivo STB or Bluray player for example).

Pressing Prime or Netflix on remote returns to TV but in "smart" mode and uses the TV's Prime / Netflix apps.

So it seems I got lucky discovering this. I'll send the G20S back as it doesn't offer anything more that I need.

UI clients don't support FF and RW. Depending on how you define things << and >> with a long key should be able to do long and short skips and + and - could do paging which is channel up/won.

Pardon my ignorance but how do I set keys for these things, you are saying + and - can work for channels up and down with modification.  I appreciate your help in all ways.

I don't know how you have got this remote working with Android so I can't say. It it doesn't sent normal Android keys then there should be a clientstore...xml file in you data directory showing the keys that are not mapped.

Is there away to force it so that if you click a channel it auto plays without bringing up options? maybe double tap can do recording options? Maybe offer that as a setting in the settings options.

What happens when you hit the Play key? If nothing send the zipped logs in a support thread.

Play works, it would be cool if it worked on center button and holding down play brought up recording menu, but I understand if you dont want to code that. FF/REW change channels. Can I set that to the other button in the settings?

Also, just a suggestion, but instead of wheel loading symbol, could we instead have an option to put a channel logo in place so it would load that prior to the stream playing in the app?
