NPVR UI not picking up TV signal

I'm attaching the logs for the affected system.

In case it helps, this is a simple one-tuner, TA TV setup using a Hauppauge WinTV-dual HD ATSC. I use it mainly to try things out in a simpler environment before applying it to my more serious HD PVR 2 1512 system.

As described in the yauiclient.exe thread above, the symptom is that I launched NextPVR.exe to make sure that the tuner was working; then I closed NextPVR.exe and launched, for the first time, a freshly downloaded and installed copy of yauiclient.exe to check out the interface and some of the features; and finally I closed yauiclient.exe and reopened NextPVR.exe in order to compare the features that I had just reviewed on yauiclient.exe... at which point NextPVR.exe was unable anymore to show live TV. Wondering what might have caused this inability, and of course how to resolve it. Speculating that a reboot might take care of it, but wondering whether this might be a band-aid and not a real solution.

There is no reason why yauiclient should leave NextPVR.exe in broken state.

In your logs, it looks like the NextPVR Recording Service isn't running, so the client can't connect to it.

I'd probably just reboot (or restart the service), and check it's back in a working state. Then maybe retry the same scenario to see if it gets back into that state. If it does, we could dig into it in some more detail.

I rebooted this morning and at your request tried the same sequence of actions again. Everything's working well now.

Will report back if the issue returns, but I'm not anticipating needing to do that.

What I saw in the logs is the problem happened too far back to figure out. NextPVR.exe is crashing on startup and the logs don't explain way.

My guess is at on time you tried to watch the same channel on yauiclient and NextPVR but you only have it scanned on one tuner. But that doesn't explain the crash.

Since you mentioned NextPVR.exe crashing on startup, I looked in the Startup tab in Task Manager and saw that the NPVR Tray item is disabled: could that have something to do with it?

FWIW, the NextPVR Service is running and set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)" in Services.

Nah it doesn’t need the NPVR Tray, so shouldn't be related to that.

It might be but it hasn't retarted since last year

Which might have been a little long at least with my HDPVR experience on Windows.

yeah, I noticed that too, and thought it was pretty amazing that Windows was managing to stay running that long.

That all makes sense, I reboot as little as necessary and I think the last time before today was about three months ago.
