I've searched as much as I can with a 2 and 5 year old hanging from my shoulders - would anyone be so kind as to point me to the "getting started" links that I'm somehow missing? (sorry I'm being lazy, but the kids need to play!)

At the moment - MVP D3a with green network light blinking. Haup screen says "coonecting to boot server". I'm under the impression I should not install any Haup software and MVP support is included in latest version of GBPVR. I'm running GBPVR with no plug ins.

Thanks guys...

Go into the gbpvr config program and in the playback tab set "number of servers to autostart" to 1. OK the config program.

The MVP should then locate the server and load up the dongle.bin, if it doesn't try unplugging the MVP, waiting 10 seconds or so and plugging it back in again.
GB-PVR 1.0.16 (recording service and database) running on: VIA EPIA 5000 (533Mhz), 512MB, 40GB HD, PVR-150MCE, USB-UIRT controlling Sky Digital box.

GB-PVR 1.3.11 (front-end and client for above) running on: Toshiba NB100 netbook 1.6Ghz, 160GB HD, 1GB RAM.

Front-end viewed on 2xMVPs (using mvpmc dongle).

got that... anything else? It just hangs at "contacting mvp bootserver"

Bad mvp?

Do I have to set any file sharing configs in xp on the "server?"

scott,
By "Haup screen", do you mean the blue MediaMVP splash screen on the TV (with 10 small boxesthat become white)?

If so, I think you just need to start the "GB-PVR MediaMVP Server" on your PC

scott,

Do you have a DHCP server on your network? The Hauppauge MVP server software has one built in. The GB-PVR MVP server doesn't (as far as I can remember).

I think there is a trick where you can install the Hauppauge MVP software, let the MVP contact that and get an IP address, put MVP in standby from the remote, stop both Hauppauge MVP services (and set to manual) then enable 1 MVP server in GB-PVR Config.

I 'think' (might be wrong), the MVP will remember its IP address as long as you only use Standby and don't pull the power plug.

Cheers,
Brian

and if there is a DHCP server on your network then the next thing to check would be to make sure that no firewall is preventing the two "talking". But whatever you do don't just disable the firewall while you are still connected to the internet. It only took 10 seconds for my PC to get infected when I did that!

i have the gbpvr setup, running great. I thought i had a quality of recording issue due to stuttering. well, i thought it may be due to file size, as i am getting like 120 meg files in 3 mins. BUT.... i looked at my network and noticed wirell activity at 50 %!!. ok so i pull my wireless and out goes my recording, bingo :
I have a P4 dual processor running a a wintv usb2, cat 5 to my attic to a wireless router, basck down to my mvp.

1. How do i get my wireless to stop taking the sig request from/to from mvp from wireless and start taking the cat5 i have run to the router and not take my wireless cards offline?

2. How do I get these file sizes down? I have a 120gig, and it looks like my season passes won't take long to swallow it up.
thanks sooooo much.. I'm watching, booboorulesus on aolim also

ok - not sure about DHCP, but the Mark's comment took me to the next step - I had not launched that second program in the GBPVR folder!

Now, I connected, saw the ten little boxes, got a one time win XP sp2 question about allowing the box to connect and...

... now I see my gbpvr screen, my menus, my previously recorded shows, the guide ( through which I can set a show to record) BUT...

... no video. no pre-recorded, or live TV. Once I go through the menus to the point i should see video, I get a black screen.

I can click menu, and I pop right back to the gbpvr screens.

and ideas?

actually not working yet... i get menus but no video - but I'll re-read the content in the links you sent to try and figure out what I'm missing. I thought it weas the dba multiplex setting in "misc." tab, but trying a couple setting including ss didn't change anything...
