I am trying to reset the MediaMVP to be in 16x9 as I have a widescreen TV. I believe the only way to do it is via the Hauppauge version of the dongle. I stopped the GBPVR services and manually started the MediaMVP Server, I eventually tried uninstalling GBPVR and reinstalling MediaMVP from scratch, I switched off all the firewalls (Windows and on the router) - I get the Hauppauge server window with Videos Pictures Music Radio and settings boxes, but it doesn't matter which button I press on the remote control, on the PC the server quits "MediaMVP Server GUI has encountered a problem and has to close", the server reboots... and so on and so on... has anyone got any ideas why the server refuses to play ? At my wits end !

I don't know about the Hauppauge software, bec I never used them, GBPVR uses a Hauppauge dongle software to load up its interface. There is no reason to install the Hauppauge software except for testing purposes. If you have installed the Hauppauge software, you have to disable it's services first to run GBPVR. Follow this link from wiki to learn more about the MVP.

Some notes though,

1. You need to have DHCP serving IP to your MVP, the Hauppauge software has it's own, GBPVR does not.

2. You need to have at least one MVP server running, this the "Number of servers to autostart' in MVP tab of Config.exe. It's 1 for every MVP you have

3. MVPs will only run mpgs, all other files must be transcoded to mpgs and streamed, this requires a considerable cpu power.

4, If you have more than 1 MVP, load the dongle one at a time and not at the same time

5. MVP is only 4:3, 16:9 video is achieved by black bars or cropping, although I know there is a 16:9 dongle-beta somewhere, I just forget who has it.

6. Wired MVP is recommended over wireless but wireless is not impossible

That's it and don't forget to view the wiki.Smile

Correct the only way to change this setting in flash is with the Hauppauge dongle and server. You sound like you are doing things correctly so I speculat that you are using Vista which isn't supported by Hauppauge.

An alternative is to use mvpmc which allows you to set your aspect-ratio yourself or if your lucky and your recorded content contains wide screen signaling information it will do it automatically.

Unfortunately I am using XP. I think I may have to roll back the registry to before I installed GBPVR. One thing I noticed was that when I reinstalled the Hauppauge software it did not ask again about giving Mvp server rights ?

I'm just getting used to GBPVR... and liking it...
I will persist and see if I can get MVP to display correctly. It is cutting off the sides of the 16 x 9 picture (I see the full picture in WinTV)

thanks

I wasn't suggesting replacing GBPVR. mvpmc is a replacement for the Hauppauge dongle.

Well so far I have ascertained that it is some sort of network problem. I have been making up my own (very long) Cat6 patch cables and I have wired them incorrectly. I connected to the MVP via some short ready made patch cables via my laptop and was able to communicate and change the aspect ratio. I also changed the video from composite to S-Video. (When I first connected I thought there was an option saying "RGB detected or something similar - that option has disappeared ?)
I will try the MVPmc dongle, I am still trying to get my head around what is going on, I didn't realise GBPVR used the Hauppauge dongle.
Hopefully soon I will get a chance to remake the patch cables and see if the whole system works.
Thanks for your patience !

I finally got it working again, the dongle part got corrupted or the wrong version got installed somehow. I went to Hauppauge's website to get the latest version and got to
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support...iamvp.html
rather than
http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/support...iamvp.html
which installed an old version of the dongle ?
Anyway.. up and running now...

cheers all and despite the teething problems I have persisted because it seems like a great bit of software.
