Do Closed Captions work?

Do closed captions work? I have a PVR-350 and a EPIA M10000. I'm using the s-video output on the epia motherboard. I saw there was an option for close captions in the config dialog so I checked it, but it didn't work. I tried the InterVideo and Cyberlink software mpeg codecs and each of three overlay choices VMR9, VMR7, and overlay manager. I tried each of those setting with the three close captions settings on my Sony TV: XDS, CCT, & TXT.

bronsonwalden, you must use the Hauppauge/Intervideo decoder and VMR. Then open direct.ini in a text editor and to each recording quality section (including live TV) add either OutputType=14 or OutputType=10. I use 14.

Hello all, i've done a search of captions in this forum and read everything I can find under the sun.
I have a PVR-250 and have done the regedit mods as per amontillado's website. I got the captions to work with SageTV. But I cannot for the life of me get it to work with GBPVR. I have Video set to intervideo NonCSS interlaced and VMR9. I've tried VMR7 and Overlay.. nothing. I've checked "enable closed captioning" in the config software. The direct.ini file shows OutputType=14 and I've tried OutputType=10. No luck there either. Video is output through s-video port on an ATI Radeon 9100 AGP with 128MB. I see video just fine with GBPVR but no closed captioning. What am I doing wrong? Help!
Oh by the way, I tried to click on some old thread links that are embedded in users posts but it keeps taking me back to forums.gbpvr.com so i cannot read the actual old threads. A search of captions do not reveal much.

Are you in the US or somewhere else. I think this approach only works with Line21 captions which are used in the USA.

Yes I live in the US of A! Wintv2k and SageTV captured closed captioning.

It should work, others have used this feature in the past. That said, I'm not in the USA so I have no way to test it.
