GB-PVR and WinTV2000 on the same machine, is this okay?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. It's been awhile since I've had GB-PVR on my machine. I originally had the Hauppauge software (WinTV2000) and all their updates installed on my machine before I installed GB-PVR. My card in teh pvr-350. Anyway, I was having trouble recording shows/livetv, especially long programs, like sporting events that were 3.5 hours long. I tried various recordings in both GB-PVR and WinTV2000 and both seemed to produce video that was out-of-sync with the audio, etc. I downloaded PVAStrumento, ran it, didn't work. Same problem with VHS tape I converted to .mpeg.

Someone here suggested that maybe this was a driver problem. Since I'm pretty much clueless, I need to know a few things about installing GB-PVR before I actually do. I have a fresh install of WinXP Pro with all the updates, including .NET Framework 2.0 (but still also have versions 1.1 and a 1.1 hotfix). I just downloaded the latest release, GBPVR09511.msi.

So, to my questions:

1) Stupid question alert! I need to install all the drivers from Hauppauge, but should avoid the WinTV2000 & other related apps, correct? In other words, GB-PVR doesn't come with the necessary drivers for my pvr-350, right?

2) I have other apps like Winamp, InstantCopy, Nero 6, etc. and I'm wondering if maybe there are any known conflicts b/w these apps and their filters and the GB-PVR filters (I'm assuming GB-PVR comes with some of its own filters)?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before. I found the installation manual on the Wiki and have a printout of replies to my first forum post, but can't find anything in the forums (I've searched) regarding this.

You need to install the drivers for your PVR350. It doesnt matter whether or not you install WinTV2000 and any associated apps. It does have the benefit of the installing the Intervideo MPEG2 decoder. You need to have at least one MPEG2 decoder installed.

GB-PVR comes with some filters, but also relies on you already having some installed on your machine (like MPEG2 decoder). I'm not aware of any specific conflicts with other apps, but there is bound to be combinations that can cause problems.

Are you using the tv-out on the 350? I had the same issue when I did. It went away when I moved to software decoding. At least *almost* completely; my machine still gets the occasional hiccup, but it usually goes away if I press skip back and forth once.

Here's how I have it setup. My TV is in the living room. I have a 3-way splitter running off of the cable that comes in the house. 1 splitter runs into my spare bedroom where my computer is and is for the Internet, 2nd runs to my cable set-top box, and the 3rd runs to the WinTV-PVR350 card. So no, I don't have the TV-out hooked up.

I've had the PVR350 for a month now, and have had no luck using it for anything except watching TV on my computer, which I don't really care to do. I bought it to record VHS --> MPEG-2 and also to record some sporting events for my brother.

I've searched various forums and this one also and nobody has been able to point me in the right direction. It's at the point now where I'm ready to throw away the $130 I spent on that damn card, take it out of my computer and run over it with my car. I guess maybe I'm just not tech-savvy enough to figure out the whole thing.

Someone suggested that I needed to hook up my line for my cable-tv conncection to the card and then use the cable-out to run to the cable set-top box. Of course, I don't wanna have to turn on my computer every time I wanna watch tv. So, I thought about getting an old computer to put in the living room and using it as a dedicated HTPC, but when I get replies saying "there's is always going to be conflicts" and such, it's very frustrating. So, again, at this point, I'm done--no more Hauppauge, GB-PVR, GAM, Media Portal. Quitter in the USA.

First off Thank You Sub I love this GBPVR once i got it working lol Its awsome.

Tara C. dont give up, I'm a computer tech and it took me 3 weeks from the time I installed it till the time i got it working. Maybe im a bit slow but it will be well worth it once you get it working.

y setup is a bit different I do not use the tv out on the PVR 350 I use the TV out on my video card as i do use my htpc as a computer sometimes. I have tons of stuff installed on that pc Nero, Windvd almost anything you can imagine and the pc is not a new one its a P3.

So dont give up
