I just installed GBPVR today and I want to try it out. Problem is even though I have signed up for Zap2it through the GBPVR settings option, it gives me an error when I hit Update EPG, tells me that it is not configured correctly and to check my settings. The only settings I see are my username and pw which I have repeatedly verified.

Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of is that it is because I am on very slow dial up internet.

BTW I am using Hauppauge pvr 350 attached to my Starchoice receiver. Setup works fine with Beyond TV, just wanted to try another program.

Reproduce the problem, then zip and attach your config.exe.log and I'll take a look.

Funny...now I cannot recreate the problem. I don't get the error when I click Update EPG in the Config utility, but it just sits there saying "Requesting Listing Information from Zap2it.com". Been on for several minutes now, how long should it take (considering I am 28.8k dial up)?

I can still send my config.exe.log if you want.

It can take a while... I hate to think how long on 28.8k modem.

I strongly recommend you set the number days to '3', which I think is the smallest you can do.

I am assuming you have to have the EPG loaded in order to watch live tv? I know in Beyond TV, I can view live tv even though I don't have the guide loaded. It is because I still change the channel directly on my satellite receiver, so it does not matter what channel the live tv viewer is set to. Can I do something similar in GBPVR?

sub, if you can't it may be worth it for people w/ empty guides (due to error or no access) to have auto-created 30 or 60 min blocks for each channel (so you could still do some recording if you needed to, and not get TS files too big).

The bummer immediately after the EPG error last release was not recordings, but just not being able to watch anything.

Whilst you could do this without an EPG, it'll make for a pretty crap GB-PVR experience, and makes me think your think you've picked the wrong tool for the job.

Many people here also use satellite receivers and cable boxes, but then they also use an EPG, and have an IR Blaster to automatically change channels as required. This way you get the benefit of being able to browse the TV Guide and schedule recordings or schedule season recordings. This is where GB-PVR will shine.

If dont want an EPG, or any of these cool scheduling features, and just want to watch whatever video your receiver is putting out, you should just use a simple TV viewing app like the Hauppauge WinTV software. Using PVR software like GB-PVR and BeyondTV for this is overkill.

I have no plans to do anything like this. Yuck...

If you want more than 3 , set it to 3 and get that to work, then set it to 5 and download 2 more days, then 7... This way it is only downloading 2-3 days at a time, and once you get it where you want it, it will only need to update it.

My daily zap2it was 6MB, which would be about a half hour at 28.8. (I think) I just did another one, 4MB it took me 15 seconds.Big Grin

It would be nice to have some means to still watch TV normall if GB loses the EPG on you. Those of us that know how to use Access can help ourselves, but it leaves everyone else stuck. Since it is possible to lose the EPG and not be able to get it back (I know this last example was a perfect storm of accidents), it would be nice not to lose use of GB altogether, or still manually program things you know the time/channel for in the meantime.
