After finally getting GBPVR working after coming from Showshifter I have come back to the same problem i have had before. I want to convert to XVid to watch on my standlaone Divx/XVid player.

What i am wondering is what other people use to do this. Ideally i want a tools where i can choose the target size and just let it get on with it.

I have tried Auto Gordian Knot which worked ok but the audio was out of synch. This took as mpg source. I have managed to get GBPVR to output to MPG rather than DVR-MS or whatever it is.

Any advice?

This is what I do, works great. Target size is one of the parameters

You can also do this with the built in transcoding. If you want the resulting .AVI file to fit on a CD then add the "-target vcd" setting to the following line in config.xml. If you want the resulting .AVI file to fit on a DVD then add the "-target dvd" setting to the following line in config.xml. The bitrates will be automatically adjusted to fit.

Quote: <Conversion name="XviD" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 224 -ac 2 -target vcd -acodec mp3 -vcodec mpeg4 -vtag XVID {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />
<Conversion name="DivX" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -f avi -ab 224 -ac 2 -target vcd -acodec mp3 -vcodec mpeg4 vtag DIVX {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".avi" />

Will this be a one-pass encoding? When I use auto-GK and setting an explicit size, it always resultes in a two-pass encoding. (That's why I use the "75%" target quality which results in a one-pass encoding.) For me the runtime is more important than the resulting size, since I'm storing it on HD anyway...

Is there a sumary of the flags for the built in transcoding somewhere?

You'll have to disable GMC in the config if you want to play it in a standalone Xvid player. If you're interested in trying the script out, I could put together a profile for standalones that you could test out. It's a 2 pass profile.

Yes, I think so

The built in trancoding just uses ffmpeg. Its a little light on detail, but the documentation on ffmpeg can be found here: http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/ffmpeg-doc.html
