What PC board and Cpu should I get??

I'm now using a cheap 1.3ghz computer, but I'm not happy with it, I cant get it to sleep the power supply for a total computer sleep (noise free in sleep) I only want to buy a board and cpu (already have a case) I'd like it to handle DDR ram and to be able to do a full sleep, or @ least what am I looking for in a pc to be able to full sleep??

The socket 939 Athlon64 3200+ seems to be very popular with HTPC. AMD's Cool 'n Quiet is perfect for a PVR since when it's idle, it underclocks itself and lowers the voltage. My office/gaming computer is an A64 3700+ overclocked to 2.6Ghz and can still use CnQ... when idle, it runs at almost ambient temp! Even running full tilt, it only gets to about 40C with the stock fan and HS... the whole computer is really quiet too, so it's not like I have a ton of fans in it.

Pretty much all the motherboards from MSI, Asus, Abit are decent. I'm an MSI guy because I've had such good luch with their motherboards, but my 3700+ is on an Asus board. Even though the system is rock stable and very fast, the bios is a mess. Things are mislabeled, options are in menus you'd never think they should be, etc. My Asus board has a VIA chipset. I've seen some threads about people having compatibility issues with the VIA chipset and the PVR350. I ran my PVR150MCE on that Asus board for a few weeks and it worked just fine. So basically, motherboard choice is pretty much up to you and what your case can accept.

One other thing... make sure your powersupply in your existing case is powerful enough... the A64 CPUs need atleast 18A on the +12 line.

Are you saying that that cpu needs 18A? That's 216W. That's a LOT of power. What do the traces on the MB look like to supply that much current?

I guess I should have said an A64-based system needs a PSU capable of supplying atleast 18A on the +12V line. Anything less and you may have stability issues especially if you have multiple hdds, powerful video card, etc.

The A64 3200+ is about 67W

I'd add that modern PSU run the CPU line on a different 12V rail. I'm not sure what that adds, but I noticed that when I was shopping for a PSU a couple weeks ago.
The box labels usually mention two +12V CPU lines, and each of the two is usually rated for up to 20 Amps or higher.

I'm also having trouble with gbpvr and the usb-uirt, when I change the channel with the pvr-350 remote control and this board and cpu, gbpvr exits to the main menu, just about every other time or so, do you think it might be the cheap board doing this? I just hope when I get the new board and cpu it doesnt do the same thing....

512 MB (ULT30215 ) RAM

for $125 (after $80 in rebates) from http://www.tigerdirect. It has worked flawlessly for a month now. My previous system (AMD XP1700 / Gigabyte KT266A) was plagued with problems.

we have a compusa here, it's about 40 or 50 miles away, the case I have now is a dell 8200, I'll have to check the power supply, iv been looking around on pricewatch.com for a good deal but I dont know who I can trust there, maby I will take a trip to compusa soon......
