Hello, I tried running tipstir's tweaks (dns.reg, lanman.reg, tcp.reg and mem.reg) and now my MVP won't start GBPVR as fast as it used to - it sits on the "Contacting Servers" screen for several minutes before reaching the GBPVR interface. Before installing the tweaks, it took only a few seconds.

Can anyone suggest which tweak might be the problem, and how I might fix it? The tweaks seem to have made playback and navigation a bit more responsive, but a fast startup would be good!

Undo all of them, and add them back until it does it again. It's going to be the best bet for your situation, since if one of those were a problem for everyone, it wouldn't be a performance tweak Wink

I'd like to do that, but I don't seem to be able to restore my backup registry (Win2000 BTW). Before running the tweaks I made an ERD and chose to back the registry up on the HD, and I have 5 files stored - DEFAULT, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEM. But I can't overwrite the files from within Windows, even if I boot into Domain Restore Mode, and I can't find a way to get to the command prompt outside Windows.

I had thought of using a bootdisk to get a command prompt, but none of the ones I have found on the web seem to allow me to write to NTFS partitions, which is what my system resides upon.

I have searched for a utility that might read my backup registry files, so that I could search for the changes, but to my surprise I haven't found anything yet.

Recommendations on what I might do next would be most welcome!

I finally found a program to view my backup registry (Mitac Windows Registry File Viewer), and restored the old keys one set at a time. The set that seemed to make the difference was the mem.reg, not what I'd have guessed but I will try to test further in the next few days and see if I can isolate the problem key.

tipstir, my network card is set to autoselect, and appears from my router's display to be operating at 100Mbit/s.

All of the registry key tweaks themselves appear to work fine. The original problem was caused by running the mem.reg file, but if I undo the changes it makes, alter the mem.reg file so that the first line is "REGEDIT4" rather than "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00", and run it, it works.

I couldn't even begin to imagine why this might be!

I'll try setting my network card to 100Mbit/s, then. As for the memory, my PC is a couple of years old anyway - CPU is a 2500+ Barton (512KB L2) and RAM is 512MB. Are the memory tweaks suitable for this kind of system? I applied them, and I haven't noticed much of a difference, but then I've never subjectively noticed any speed increases of less than about 50% without benchmarking anyway!
