I need two separate MVP servers, only one found when MVP scans for servers. I have a GBPVR MVP server and I have a Hauppauge MVP server. Only the Hauppauge server is found. What can I do so that both servers show up or so that it only looks for a server at a specific IP?

I would actually like to have:
PC1: GBPVR/MVP server --> MVP1
PC2: Client GBPVR w/MVP server (w/o some plugins of PC1) --> MVP2

but in the above scenario the MVP doesn't find a server at all.

A fix for either scenario would be greatly appreciated.

You have several options, newer MVP's would simply allow you to select the IP of the server you want into flash after boot but the older versions require setting it with the Hauppauge software. If you temporarily disable the GBPVR software and install the Hauppauge software on PC1 you should be able to select the IP of the server.

With mvpmc you can specify the ip address but it doesn't work perfectly with the Hauppauge software because I don't care to support the internal functions.

If the only reason you want one machine to talk to the Hauppauge server is to play content on machine two, I'd just use mvpmc and attach to GBPVR with both machines and then use native mvpmc mode to access the files on machine two from either mvp.

I came home yesterday and found MVP2 connnected to PC1. Therefore the opposite happened from what was happening previously, and also there was glitch somewhere in the network. I then rebooted MVP2 and it found both servers. I chose PC2 and Hauppauge MVP server worked fine. Then I followed all 6 steps of your mvpmc procedure on PC2 which is a GBPVR client w/o some plugins of PC1. However when I went into emulation mode of MVP2 it had the menu, directories, and plugins of PC2. Any idea why that would be? All I need is for it to emulate the GBPVR client and not the server.

I wonder if it has to do with Database share directory option within the Capture source tab of Config. Any idea?

I don't fully understand this comment.

I am trying as much as possible not to have to use two different applications on any single MVP. It would be an option under certain cirumstances but not in the current one.

I still don't know what you are trying to achieve, but if you want to talk to the Hauppauge server with one machine I don't think mvpmc meets your needs and I can't really help you. You definitely need to have your network set up so that each mvp always can see both servers even if you specify just one, or you will have problems.

It's possible what you're having is a different issue. Sometimes I will start my MVP and see two servers, and sometimes only one. It could be that while it polls servers, one of the servers are not actually ready yet.

But it all went away when I got a different router.

It seemed that the first router would give away it's dhcp lease, and things would randomly change their IP addresses, so a MVP reboot wouldn't find it's memorized IP of the server, and kick me to the 'choose server' screen, and not display all the servers...

I don't know how else to explain it other than what I have said before.

I was trying to use the Hauppauge server as a troubleshooting tool and not an end goal. It was just the first step in trying to see if I can achieve a setup with 2 separate servers and 2 separate PCs.

I know I need to have the network setup so that each MVP can always see both servers. The first question I asked in the first post was how to resolve that issue and I am still looking for an answer on it. I have no idea why at times the MVP doesn't see both servers.

I guess I will have to spend on a new router. I have been wanting to get a 2Wire ADSL modem+4 port router+wireless router.

If you turn off one of the servers, the mvp will always reconnect to the other server. I don't think this can be avoided without mvpmc (again which I don't recommend for you).

Lately I haven't had a problem with the MVPs finding the servers. Now if I disconnect/reconnect the power from the MVP it will give me an option of the servers and when the MVP restarts on its own, for whatever reason, it finds the same server it was connected to previously. I ended up just using the Hauppauge server since I couldn't get the Recorded Shows or the Guide on the MPV2 from the Client PC. Since this would have been a setup probably almost nobody would care to use and therefore I don't want to take people's time away any further, I settled for the Hauppauge server. I truly appreciate your help Martin.

And yours too Zhed
