Are There Issues With Having Two GBPVR Servers on a Network?

I am in the process of migrating from my PC running XP to a new PC currently running Windows 7 RC. As a next stage in this process, I would like to move one of my capture cards to the Win7 machine (leaving two capture cards in the XP machine). I view programs via a MediaMVP and a PCH.

I want to run GBPVR on the Win7 machine for a while, letting it record programs and I will watch them from the MVP and PCH. I will add the other capture cards as I get more confidence in the Win7 configuration.

I know when the MVP boots from power off it has a screen with the servers it finds (so far it is always a single entry in it with the XP machine's IP address). I assume that with two PCs running GBPVR there will be two entries in the screen and I can choose which one I want.

I recognize that the Popcornhour is not as flexible in choosing a server and I will have to configure it for the server I want to use.

Once I am happy and want to make the transition permanent, I plan to export the recordings from the XP machine and import the recording-dump file into the Win7 machine.

Are there any issues I should be aware of with what I am planning?

Both mvpmc and mvpmcx2 allow the command line option --emulate IP where you can specify the server IP you want to talk to so it's a non-issue. Alternatively don't AutoStart any MVP servers on the machine you don't want them to connect too.

Note that IP selection screen is only on the newer MVP's and if you use mvpmc it doesn't use it except for locating the MVP share.

You probably are using the default dongle that is coming with GBPVR?
If you are changing to Win7 you might have to change the dongle aswell, to the mvpmc-dongle. I think most Vista users do. When using that dongle the ip is being saved in memory. That can only be changed by using a hauppauge dongle. (something like that). I remember my network having changed, so my mvp got a new ip, I had to run the haup-dongle first to get the new ip in the mvp-memory.
I'm sure Martin Vallevand can/will confirm this, or comment it.

It, and Martins software are very flexible - although once you deviate from the norm support becomes debatable :eek: My startup html lets me choose a couple or three servers. You're better with the one standard startup system and tuck a more complex one out of the way for experimental use.

I'm going to do a clean install. Actually, I will beign with reformatting the disk and install Win7 from scratch. I plan to use NMTInstall and re-read all the threads that deal with installing MVP and PCH.

Could you uploid your startup HTML so I can see how to allow myself to pick from multiple servers. It sounds like just what I want during the transition because some programs will end up being recorded on the XP machine and others will be on the Win7. Neither computer will have all the new recordings.

I've been running two servers (XP Pro) for over a year now. Both machines have two dual tuners and two MVP servers enabled using mvpmc. I've got 3 (sometimes 4) MVPs running. Most times I don't really care which MVP is connected to which server.

ServerA can access ServerB's recordings through the video library and vice-versa. Being able to record Mrs ACTCMS's 'must see' shows on both machines is a big WAF. It took about 5 minutes to explain how to watch recordings from the other machine to her (the grandchildren figured it out by themselves).

One thing I did do was to change the skin main menu to display the name of the server.

This trick is only from loading the mvpmc share. With GBPVR supporting mvpmc know it is not mandatory. It remains to be seen how the Hauppauge server handles the Hauppauge dongle in Win 7.

From my perspective there is no debate, there is no support.
