I don't know much about graphics cards with TV-out. I assume they all use S-Video??? What is the max. recommended cable length (assuming I use quality cable etc.)?

If you believe PCzapper.nl you can reach 15 meters with a high quality cable.
I tried 10 meters with S-Video and a not so good cable and the result is "not so good" so buy a good cable.

Thanks for the reply. I was worried it was maybe only 2-3m. The run I'm thinking of would only be 5m at the most.

I'd still suggest you buy a good cable, even at 5m

What I was intending to do. Smile

I need to source 'unmade' cable though. I'd terminate both ends myself. I don't want a hole in my living room ceiling big enough to pass the connectors through.

Might be easier to buy a made one and unsolder/resolder the connector at one end after fitting . . .

Duh! You're right. That'd probably be easier - I must remember to put my brain in before thinking. Big Grin

I use 10 m high quality scartcable with no loss of quality compared with my shorter cables. My TV is not a super TV. Maybe I could detect quality differences if it was, I can't judge.

Stefan, I use tv-out on the Hauppauge 350.

Edit:
More info about my connections

From 350 -> VHS Scart in (original cable) -> scartplugg out with extra audio + scart -> audio to amplifier + HIFI-scart 10 m to TV (PAL)

I got good audiosync no matter if I use audio from amplifier or audio TV. It is possible that my VHS gives a better signal out than it got in, allthough it´s in stand by-mode. I can only guess that the signal is the same.

TV-cable (coax) -> VHS -> 350.
Motherboard audio -> amplifier as well.
I use the same ground for the entire system to avoid issues.
