gbpvr on a mce computer

as above is it possible

ive tried to install the software on a desktop that has the mce software installed

it works like a dream on my laptop which has the xp home edition but each time i try to configure gbpvr on the mce desktop it states that it cant find the capture card am i wasting my time attmepting to do so ?

they will work on the same system, but MCE has a couple of services which tries to grab any tuners for itself when wwindows loads and these need to be shut down before gbpvr can access the tuners.

Cant remember exactly what they are called though...maybe a search of the forums will help you. Or try The Green Button forum, i think thats where i first read about them.

I use GB-PVR on my MCE2005 machine and it runs fine. ricklous is right about the MCE services locking down your TV card though. All the MCE processes start with eh so you can manually kill them in Task Manager to release your card. Specifically, the processes are called:

ehmsas.exe
ehrecvr.exe
ehSched.exe
ehtray.exe

Ive tried to close the proceses that u suggested but each time i close it down it reappears again in the the same process list any ideas how to permanantly stop them ?

Go into the Services panel (Start->Run-> Enter 'services.msc' and click on OK). Then disable and stop them. Double click on the entry for the service you want to stop and a panel will open. Change the 'Startup type' to Disabled, then click on the Stop button, then click OK after it has stopped. You may get by with changing the Startup type to manual. Once you do this, you won't be able to use MCE again unless you restart those services. But once you've used GB-PVR for a while you probabaly won't want to go back anyway .

i disabled all the ones that i assumed were media centre related and found that all the processes disappeared in the task manager but still couldnt get it to see the usb tv card in gb pvr i reset them all

i'll keep looking at itim sure its something obvious

gb pvr works great on my laptop its just my windows mce desktop has a bigger hard disk and i wanted to see how it coped with it

Which capture card is it?

its the nova t usb2 here in the uk not sure where your based
could this be the problem ?

gb pvr works great with my laptop and love the available plugins

i'll take another look later perhaps tomorrow but any other advice would be appreciated

ive got one of them. works fine, and seeing as youve had it on the laptop that would suggest its not the capture card thats the problem.

maybe give it a try installing the drivers + gbpvr while those services are disabled? just to make sure they are out of the way completly so you can discount the mce stuff.

other than not being able to join a domain, MCE is basicly the same as 'standard' xp with the extra services thrown in so id suggest doing everything you can to discount them first.
