5.1 only dvd, i cant hear anything

I have a dvd which only has 5.1 audio on it. I only have a stereo tv.

When i play the dvd some of the audio is fine but other audio is barely audible. I assume it is trying to send this out of speakers i dont have.

Woudl this still happen with a regular dvd player? or is it my tv?

Is there anything i can do?

Are you sure there is no 'setup' option on the dvd's menu? From here you can usually change the sound settings.

You need to downsample the audio to stereo. It's losing the 3.1 audio signals.

In some setups you can set to stereo, or used something like ffdhow to resample/downmix.

Most sound drivers tend to have a setting that will downmix to stereo. Also investigate the properties for your DVD audio decoder as quite often you can specify the speaker output from there. Make sure this is also set to stereo (if you have the option). If not then it might be worth trying a different decoder.
