Hmm all of these decoders i've tried work great with live tv, but recordings skip.. Other decoders work but not as good as dscaler.... I really love how the videos turn out with dscaler.. but recordings just dont work... Anyone got any ideas of a way to make it work...I dont have any deinterlace filters set under the misc. tab.

if you have deinterlace set to "none" under the Misc tab, then you are not actually using the mpeg2 decoder for live TV. if you set it to "encoder passthrough" then your PVR 250 will encode to an MPEG2 stream and then be decoded by the decoder of your choice just like watching a recorded video.

a celeron 800 is pretty weak so i would expect you will have performance issues. i would imagine that the overlay setting is your only viable option for watching videos.

Yeah... Im looking into upgrading.. But I cant decide ... AMD Xp's are hard to find now.. and a sempron 64 bit is more than i want to buy.. because ill be tempted to put osx x86

But then if i do upgrade the pvr will be faster than my main pc....and ill be mad

Your PC just doesn't have much horsepower to spare, so you'll need to make sure you limit what you try to do. Your ram is very limiting too. Some decoders use a lot of ram, or ram usage grows and shrinks significantly during playback. 512 should probably be the minimum, especially if you're using any plugins.

Whatever decoder you use, make sure you've got hardware acceleration turned on if at all possible.

I used to use a 1.1 GHz Celeron and it took a while to get it where it would playback well. Uninstall any decoders you don't use, and definitely look at removing AC3Filter. This can put serious hurt on a low-end system and has a habit of installing itself as a preferred decoder for your sound. Ffdshow can be a killer too.

If you haven't already, download and install graphedit and use it to test different decoders. You can setup the filters and then playback, seing the same results you would in gbpvr. Also, gbpvr creates a lastgraph file in the main directory that shows you the filters it's using. You can open this in graphedit and see if gbpvr is doing what you think it's doing. I've use this to track down several problems on my system.

Good luck,
Tim
