Well in that case, I really dont know. Try to copy the exporer.exe from another computer and replace your own.

I had the exact same problem show up a couple weeks ago. I can't remember how I fixed it right now. I think it had to do with searching for network printers or something along those lines.

I am pretty sure I found the answer here or thru google.

It's starting to come back to me....

The quick fix involved shutting down the explorer service thru task manager and then restarting it on the run command line.

Holy bad advice Batman.
Do NOT mess with explorer.exe.
You most likely have a massive spyware infection or some corrupted toolbars.
Remove all toolbars like Yahoo, Google, MSN etc first.
Try Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware to remove spyware.
Be sure to right click on your IE icon on the desktop, select properties, Delete files, including offline content. Delete cookies too.

See if you can find a download of filemon.exe

PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you tomorrow while i'm at work. Filemon looks deeper than what Task Manager can show you and it's help me solve many issues like this.

Also, run msconfig from the run line and take a look at the General tab. Uncheck the box next to "Load Startup Items" (some viruses and spyware live there).
Reboot your computer and see if it still has the issue. If not, then you know something in the startup group (see the Startup tab in msconfig) is causing the issue.

if it is a spyware problem, i suggest to run this utility.
its free for personal use.
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

It'd still focus on fixing the problem. Just adding more ram is like getting a bigger bucket because you keep throwing up.

When did it start giving problems?
What error do you get when you “induce a crash”?
If explorer is configured to view thumbnails, does it have the same issue using the “details” view?
Have you tried system restore?

Have you done a complete virus scan and removed the virus?[/COLOR]
