Thanks for the advice. But having just tried it. I can't. Every time I use the configureation wizard to change from pvr-350 to anything else it defaults back when I start up the wizard (Yes I saved it, and tried to watch live tv on my monitor).

Try setting it again, then click the ok button to close the config app, then zip and attach your config.exe.log so I can check for any errors.

...or try manually editing config.xml and setting <HardwareDecoder>None - use software decoder</HardwareDecoder>.

Got it going. I downloaded and installed the K-Lite Codec Pack and it works. Takes between 24% and 40% of my CPU (AMD Duron 750) to run and 100% while starting.

Hardware decoder device = Hauppauge PVR350
Video Decoder = InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder
Audio Decoder = " " Audio "
Audio Renderer = SB Audigy Audio [D000]

Next question (and I'll also look this up in the archives). What settins do I have to use when using the s-video output to my TV so as not to destroy the TV by exceding its abilitys.

You just connect your tv with s-videocable and audiocable (connect to the hauppaugecard not to audiocard. Then select "Use hardwareencoder", then it should work.
You must have a little luck with this, there are a lot of people having problems with hardware-out, otoh there are a lot that have not.

As I have understood him previously in the thread, he doesn't want to use hardware decoder; he wants to use his graphics card to output to the tv...

What I am trying to ask, in my own incoherent fasion, is this. When I out put to the TV and not to my monitor, do I use the s-video out from the Happauge card, or from my Nvidia card? Both have S-video out ports. I do understand from my reading of the KnoppMyth forums that, at least with KnoppMyth, care must be taken to ensure that the signal being sent to the TV does not exceid what the TV can handle. For example my Monitor is set to 1280x1024 32bit and 80Hertz. I suspect that that signal, if sent to my TV, would be un-healthy.

If this is foolish question, please understand that this (PVR's) is all new to me.

I certainly would try the tv-out from the hauppauge card, because it has a decoderchip so your cpu won't be bothered and the quality is excellent. As I mentioned before this does not work good for all systems, but I would certainly try.
If you use the tv-out from your videocard, I am sur you can configure the output according to the needs of the tv.

You can use either.

a) use hauppauge tv-out. Then you need to set your "Hardware decoder device" setting to "pvr-350". Any settings for video decoder/renderer are then ignored by gbpvr. Any codecs you have installed will *not* be used. The pvr-350 card will take care of all of that. Since the card does the job, you will get virtually no cpu usage. You will get a *really* good picture. Downsides is that it will not work on many motherboards. You will get frequent lock-ups if you have a motherboard that does not like the hauppauge card. You cannot play anything but mpegs on the card. This means that if you want to watch a divx/xvid, the computer must convert it into an mpeg on-the-fly, and you will need a computer with pretty much horse power for that.

b) You can use tv-out on your graphics card. Then you need to set your "Hardware decoder device" setting to "none". Gbpvr will then try to honor any settings for video decoder/renderer that you have set. This cannot be granted, though, because there are certain decoders that when you install them make sure that they will be used no matter what you set your applications to do. Downside to this is that your computer will have to do all the work, and your cpu will get busy. Plus that you will not get a picture that is as good as with the pvr-350.

You don't have to worry about this, I think. I don't think you can use that setting on the s-video out... IIRC, the problem is when you build your own vga(rgb) to scart(rgb) converter - then you would have to be careful.

I'll try and get it setup to talk to the TV this weekend. Need to run a network drop to the TV and get that section of the house wired into the netwok.
