No video only sound from VCR source

Today I wanted to digitize a show I had recorded on a VCR tape. I ran it though the manual record. However, it only recorded the sound. I was left with a sold black screen and sound.

This was the same effect if I watched the tape in live mode.

I disconnected the cable from my 250 and hooked it up to the TV. I had video and sound directly from the VCR.

I can watch a recorded show from the computer on the tv without any trouble.

I can record a show from the sat. without any trouble.

So, it appears all of my hardware is working.

Any suggestions? I am running version 0.96308

try selecting to composite rather than s-video input.

even tho you are using an s-video connector, the signal from the vhs machine is almost certainly composite.

Actually prior to starting I disconnected the s-video cable because it does not carry sound. I have been using a regular coaxle cable screwed into the 250's input and the vcr's output.
