In the four days since I disabled the MVP autostart setting, my DB has compacted correctly twice, and failed twice. Both times that it failed the call to RequestDatabaseCompaction() occurred before the "checking recordings" entry in the recording service log.

From this, I conclude that having a copy of GB-PVR running in MVP server mode is also inhibiting the database compaction, since I've seen it fail to compact when it runs after "checking recordings" when configured with auto-start set to 1.

I'm not bothering to look at this because I use a slightly different scheme with higher chance of successfully compacting the database in the next release.

UncleJohnsBand Wrote:Jim...don't put it there....I tried that and it causes the GBPVR service to continually restart every 10 minutes or so for about an hour.....I think it has to do with the fact that the postupdateepg.bat is called from GBPVR and then when the compact utility stops the service GBPVR doesn't think it completed the EPG update correctly.

I simply went into control pannel, scheduled tasks and added a new one that runs the program about 45 minutes after the scheduled epg update. According to sub the EPG update can occur anywhere up to 1/2 hour past your scheduled time for the EPG update.

My MDB's have been staying small the last few days without doing anything special, so maybe things started working normally again.
But I've been trying to figure out a way to run your utility automatically.
I wonder if adding these lines to the start of UpdateEPG.bat would exploit the restart-update on service restart condition?

Code:
REM *** UpdateEPG.bat ***
c:
cd "C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\"

if exist "compact.bat" goto Second_Run
if not exist "compact.bat" echo gbpvr_Compact.exe >compact.bat
call compact.bat
goto end_compact

:Second_Run
del compact.bat
goto end_compact

:end_compact
REM **** Normal UpdateEPG.bat opperation starts here. ****

Thanks for the utility! It helped me find the problem. My MDB file got destroyed a while back so I changed the attributes of the GBPVR directory to read/write only for administrators. My PVR operates as a Power User.

I made sure to make "SYSTEM" have read/write access thinking this would allow GBPVR read/write access, but nothing else.

After giving all users access to the directory, everything works.
GB-PVR (usually newest version) (Love it! Direct access to 45-button Hauppauge remote not working)
