I am using the 45 key Hauppauge with a PVR150 remote. Currently the pc is in the basement, underneath the tv. I have drilled holes through the floor and everything is working fine. But...

The remote reciever is way too short...Does anyone have a good way for me to be able to lengthen it or a better way to use my remote?

I am looking for a pretty simple solution if one exists.

Thanks in advance.

I read a rpely to post about this in a haup grp from the haup tech support. They recommedned against it, based on the length was best for passing along the input.

Some people said it's just a matter of cutting & splicing to another wire. Do that at your own comfort/knowledge levels.

I've seen commercial IR repeaters, if you have the $$.

You can also look at getting a RF remote, or some remote that allows extending like that.

You can try a stereo extender cable available from most radio shack's as a trial. the ones with the mini plug on one end and the mini jack on the other. They are pretty cheap to try it out without cutting and splicing. I've had something that simple work for extending IR emitters and receivers. It's just a low power electrical connection.

I looked into that once, but it was an odd jack size. I'd love to know if you found one that worked for the Haup cards

I don't use the haup cards but I've extended IR systems in my home many times. It's not really a tough job. the receiver is most likely a 3 conductor wire inside and it's not a real critical circuit. The only "if" it is is how much power Haup gives it. That would be the only limiting factor. Either way i can't see how a couple of feet will make that much difference, if you said you needed to extend it 50 ft that would be a whole different story. You can always use a pair of pyramids to extend the Ir signal from place to place.

I just need to get it through the floor and then through the back of the cabinet that houses the tv. It's not very far... I will look at RS for a stereo cable that I will try.

Oh well, worst case scenario, I will just get a wireless mouse and use that from the couch.

I've added about 1,5 m to my PVR 250 reciever eye, works great.
It is a smaller size plugs, but they are somewhat standard. I bought one male and one female plug, just making myself an extender. (Not wanting to ruin the original one if it would fail.)

did you buy the end seperately, and then make the cable...?

If so, what type of wire did you use? Did you get the stuff at Radio Shack?

I used a standard 18guage 4 conductor stranded secruity wire but i've seen others use everything from phone wire to cat5 network wire. The reciever can be bought readily but if you're looking to just go a couple of feet then entending the cable is all you really need to do.

Yes I got the conectors and cable seperate. The wire was some semi-cheap
shielded, two-wire cable. Not from Radio Shack as we don't have that in Sweden Wink, but I'm sure they have the parts.
