Does anyone know how the conflict detection works?

I've got shows scheduled that definetely conflict:

22/11/05 0230-0300 Cheers Paramount
22/11/05 0300-0330 Cheers Paramount
22/11/05 0245-0320 Room 101 UK G2+1

Obviously Room 101 and Cheers conflict here (both same tuner), yet
Conflicts shows "Good news no conflicts"

What gives?

Cheers

Yeah, that sounds a bit odd. If you can list a set of steps to reliably reproduce this, I'll correct it for the next release.

Do you have any plugins installed that schedule recordings, or are you just using GB-PVR with no plugins?

If you use CDK, it's default is to just handle it for you, and not make you fix it.

I think it also doesn't show you a conflict right away (right after you schedule), until post EPG or something. sub could confirm that part

I am using both CDK and the internal scheduler. Both these programs were scheduled from the internal scheduler using a reoccuring program.

When does "Conflicts" get updated?

I was assuming that CDK just goes through it's preference list and tries to schedule within the normal internal schedule "as best it can" when the PostupdateEPG script is run... so all conflicts (once scheduled) should be picked up by the main GBPVR code no matter what program put them in the schedule?

Cheers

To be honest, I have no idea how CDK works. The internal scheduler doesnt let you schedule two recordings at the same time, so I'm guessing its doing something else.

Using both the Internal Scheduler and the CDK Scheduler at the same time can be done but it has to be done carefully. The default setting for CDK Scheduler is to give recordings that it doesn't know about (i.e. aren't managed by itself) precedence over the recordings it knows about. Since the Internal Scheduler runs before CDK Scheduler, this could cause some weird items to show up.

I do use the internal scheduler to schedule one off recordings (i.e. one time recordings), and CDK Scheduler to schedule all my season type recordings. It's the way that has been proven to be best worked with the internal scheduler.

As capone said, the default for Conflicts is to try and delete the conflict and schedule the item that is in the scheduler. However, if the same show is setup to record by the internal scheduler, you could potentially have duplicates showing up. So for this reason, it is recommended that if you use CDK Scheduler with the Internal Scheduler that the following guidelines be followed:

1. Use the Internal Scheduler to schedule one time or Manual recordings.
2. Use CDK Scheduler to manage season or re-occuring recordings.
3. If you want to keep conflicts, change the Conflicts configuration entry from "Delete" to "Keep" in the PriorityRecordings.xml file. This tells CDK Scheduler to put items that conflict into Conflict status.
4. If you want CDK Scheduler items to have higher priority than manual recordings or one time recordings, then change the MissingRecordings number from 0 to 9999 in the PriorityRecordings.xml. This gives the internally scheduled recordings lower priority than the CDK Scheduled programs. The default value of 0 is typically prefered because it is assumed you scheduled the show for a reason.

Following those basic guidelines, should take care of about 99% of the scheduling issues that typically arise when using the two together.

I would use CDK for everything apart from one offs (i.e. all repeated), however it's missing (or I'm not seeing) one setting.

Because I don't have much disk space, I like to set up schedules to record say all Cheers but keep only 1. So I always have a Cheers to watch but the collection only takes up a 700Mb slot (on Low) on my disk. I can't find this "Keep X Recordings" option in CDK, so I use the internal scheduler for all except things like Columbo which comes in various forms such as "Columbo", "Columbo: Nasty Death", "Columbo: Obvious Plot" etc etc. Am I missing something here?

(Oh is my very basic interpretation of the scheduling process correct? The priorities thing I kind of assumed as that's how I would write it!)

Sub: When are conflicts detected? When a program is scheduled or when the Conflicts screen is looked at?

Cheers

Simple solution, use either the external utilities DeleteRecordings or MaxRecordings.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...Recordings

That will give you the same ability as the built in Scheduler. You might have to request the Jorm add this feature to the Scheduler portion in XRecord to manage it from a UI.
