I've been using gbpvr for a while now, but maybe i never noticed this problem until recently (i thought it just started...but looking back I'm not sure). I only use it to record shows...i never really watch live tv with it. I've got an amd 1600 xp-2 120 gb hard drives-628 MB ram-winxp pro sp2-pvr-150. Whenever i record or watch shows that don't have fast motion, everything is fine....but if I try and record or watch something like a football game...it's very noticeable. Whenever the screen moves quick, or someone moves fast....it's really blurry, like the computer can't keep up. It looks like the motion blur option in video editing software. It pretty much makes recording or watching my college football team (GO LSU) aggravating and useless. I've read around the forum a little and can't seem to find an answer to this. At first i thought maybe my computer wasn't fast enough, but i have 2 hard drives---one of which is dedicated for just recording, over 512 megs of ram, and winxp pro. The only thing i was worried about was my athlon 1600xp, but since I have a hardware encoder I've heard you only need like a 800 mhz proc to do this. Can anyone point me to some things to try?????? oh...and this is a dedicated box, there's nothing else running on it.

What video decoder are you using? Have you tried other ones?

well....under video decoder i have it set to "default". i played around with some other options.....and switching it from "video overlay" to VMR7 or VMR9 seems to cut out most of the blurriness, but it makes the video a little jerky......kind of a catch 22. And thanks for the fast response.......I love this software and I know it can be a pain to have to try and walk a newb like me through troubleshooting, i appreciate it.

All the video decoders tend to behave quite differently in this regard, so try a few and see which one you like best, and works well with your hardware.

Video decoders come with lots of things like WinDVD, PowerDVD, the Hauppauge WinTV software etc.

Couple questions.
1. does my hardware sound up to par? i have an xp 2100 i could swap in.
2. what exactly am i changing with "vmr7-vmr9-video overlay"?
3. what if i don't have any of this software, is there any way to get these decoders by themselves?

thanks you.

Yes, it should be ok. Dont plan on adding an HDTV card though.

You changing the renderer. The render is a software module that is responsible for actually drawing the already decoded video onto the screen. Overlay was the oldest, next came VMR7, then came VMR9. The new VMR ones support semi-transparent graphics etc, wheras the Overlay renderer is better supported by video cards since its been around longer. They all look slightly different. Pick which ever works well for you.

Probably, but I dont know where.

If you download Showshifter and install it (it won't work), then uninstall it, it kindly leaves behind another exceptionally nice mpeg-2 decoder Big Grin
