Hi Sub,

Yesterday I wanted to install the software for my new touchscreen. However, the installer didn't start even after several retries with different versions. As I was also fiddling around with my vtplus scripts I stopped the recordingservice to let vtplus run. Then suddenly the touchscreen installer started several times! So apparantly the v017 recordingservice does more than only prevent vtplus from starting.

I really hope you can look into this and solve it.

I cant think of any reason for this to occur.

Just to confirm that this isn't a one off, I had problems installing loads of programs after I built a new machine. The installations just wouldn't start. Then by chance I changed something in GBPVR config which restarted the recording service. Loads of installs then can up and stopped again once the service had started.

I now stop the recording service when installing anything just to be sure.

I had a similar problem where not only installs but any program would not run. It seems the recording service every once and a while will shoot to 100% CPU load. After checking some things I determine that its was not recording anything nor downloading the listing. If I killed the recording service or rebooted then programs would run again.

With the PVR350 I use some debugger APIs to hook various windows function calls. Quite a few install programs wont run when a debugger is active because debuggers are traditionally used "crack" programs. Even if they're not used in your program's installer, these installers usually contain logic to validate serial numbers etc, which is what they're trying to protect. This may be what you're seeing.

Sub,
Did you change anything with going from release 16 to 17 in this sense? Before release 17 I never had any problems like these. Now they occur often (install, vtplus)

Looking forward to v18!

In version 18L, vtplus will start when the recordingservice is running. So, I suppose this issue is solved.

Sub, Any clues to what may have caused this strange behaviour?

No, and I did nothing to fix it. I suspect whatever it was, is still there but only happens in certain cirmcumstances.
