Hi - I have a problem with corrupted dvr-ms files which I am sure can be resolved somehow, but I can't seem to figure it out. Please help if you can!

Occasinally, my computer crashes whilst recording TV to a dvr-ms file. When the computer re-starts it continues recording the show to another file - however I can't read the original file that was being written when the computer crashed - Windows Media Player just states that it can't read the file.

Is there any way to recover these corrupt files, as I really want to rescue some of my recordings!

Thanks very much in advance to anyone who can help.

All the best,

Oliver.

I think you will struggle here. Because of the way DVR-MS works, once the file is broken then the first part becomes unusable and no repairing utilities I have come accross will touch it. If you rename the file to .MPG then you can persuade Media Fixer (http://www.realconvert.com/MediaFixer/) to have a go but it seldom works. (dont forget to rename it back to DVR-MS afterwards). Be warned though - Media Fixer takes an eternity to run!

However, I have had partial success in being able to play the corrupted segments in Video ReDo (http://www.videoredo.com). This is a great utility to have so it's worth checking out anyway.

Sorry I can't be more positive but I've spent many a (un)happy hour attemping the same thing until a recent MVP purchase meant I had to make the switch to MPG and a whole new set of issues lol

Good Luck!
