Hey all,
just got a haup-pvr-150. i downloaded gb-pvr (i only downloaded the drivers from the hauppauge cd, not wintv) and followed the wiki to set it up. For some reason, I get the famous "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error, and when i turn off live preview mode, it gives me a "cannot play back file" error. I hear really good things about GB-PVR but I can't seem to get it started. Any pointers? BTW, the mpeg2 decoders i have are cyberlink & intervideo (comes with hauppauge).

Go into the gbpvr install direcory (usually c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr) and put all the *.log files into a single winzip file. Then post it here as an attachment to a message.

Tried uninstalling, reinstalling (program and card itself), same error. BTW, I have it set to use Composite In for a digital cabel box (sadly, no S-Vid on it). Here are the logs

search forum for "Failure playing back file"

have you got deinterlacing off and encoder set to "passthrough"?

this is probably worth a read.

I think you'll probably need Sub to help resolve this...

So what precise steps cause this problem to reproduce?

Well I'm not entirely sure, because the program has not worked properly yet. Basically I followed the recommended steps on the WIKI, and tried with various mpeg2 decoders, toggling live preview (live preview on= object reference error/ live preview off= failed to playback file error), disabling unnecessary plugins (DVD, radio, a few others). Oh, and when live preview is off, the screen says something like "switching to timeshift tv" before i get the playback failure error. Should I maybe try setting a diff't hard drive for recording? I'm running out of ideas. Should I do a complete uninstall/reinstall?

A seperate hd will be a good idea but won;t help with this problem - assuming you have sufficent disk space.

You're problems are all related to trying to watch live tv - can you record a tv show and play it back?

btw: it may be worth installing the wintv software to confirm that the problem is inside gbpvr and not elsewhere.
