Ive been trying to figure out how to play DVDs through GBPVR and my PVR350 TV out. I have searched around the forums, and Ive read alot of people saying its just not possible. On the other hand, most of the posts I read were atleast a year old, so Im wondering if things have changed. Ive read a little about xdvd, and installed it, but obviously it's not working. Are there settings I can change to make it work for the 350, or is it exclusive for the MVP?

although the readme for the XDVD pluging mentions .bup (I think) files, it seems to me that it may work (for the 350 anyway) only for .iso files.

It definitely will not work for me, using video_ts folder with normal file structures, if I have used a tool to rip the DVD to that format.

It seems from reading the forum archives that if you rip the DVD to a .iso format, then mount the .iso, it could be playable. I'm not sure of the reason for this, as it seems the same to me, but it might work-- I've not tested yet.
It certainly can't handle the video_ts folder content I've created on my HD. I don't have a tool to make a .iso of a DVD installed yet.

Maybe someone can post with more details, but that's what I have gleaned so far. I am interested in having this capability! even if it ends up being limited re: features.

you can play an dvd directly, a .iso or a rip to a folder...Smile
to play the folder, hit right arrow to get to the list, go down and highlight the folder your dvd rip is in, [don't go in it!] and don't highlight the video_Ts folder, but the dir above that... say you have a rip in "r:\dvds\ghostbusters\video_ts"...to play, highlight the "r:\dvds\ghostbusters" dir and hit the play button on the left...
it will transcode the dvd to mpeg, changing the audio to mp2 format[for mvp's]
look in the skin and adjust for your particular system...[dir's etc]
[also the delay time or size before it starts playing]
and also check the batch files...in gbpvr dir:
playmvpdvd.bat, playmvpfiles.bat, and playmvpdvdiso.bat
make sure you have vlc installed and the path is correct in there..
should be obvious which batches do what...Smile
if that doesn't work for you, just open vlc and open the dvd [or dir] and stream out to a mpeg file and play that....
[that's all the plugin does really]
if you can play regular mpegs on it it should work..
but i've heard that the 350's tv out is quite buggy and it may lockup on you during play...but your mileage may vary..
oh and i use Xdvd to play and save my dvd's as mpegs on my main machine..Big Grin

I didnt get it going with xdvd, VLC kept crashing. But I got it to work streaming it to an mpg file with vlc and playing the mpg file in gbpvr. Had to play around with the streaming settings for about 15 minutes, but I figured it out. I got video right away, but no audio. You have to transcode the audio to .mpga.

toomanyhandles: dvd decrypter will create an .iso from a DVD. But I didnt have to use an iso, it played straight from the disc.

Thanks for all the help.
