ratdvd chapter navigation w/v0.96.12

Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem? I can play ratdvd files just fine and even navigate the menu structures but when I attempt to skip chapters within the file it gets strange. The first couple of times I attempt to skip forward it will jump about 2 minutes, then after 3 or 4 attempts at skipping it goes back to the beginning of the show?

Any ideas? If there is a log file that I can post please let me know.

I emailed the ratdvd author about these problems a while back. He acknowledged them at the time, but I dont think he fixed them.

got ya, I was hoping that there was something I had done wrong. Is it something in the encoded file or the playback software? Hopefully in the next version of ratdvd he will fix it.

Its a bug in the ratdvd directshow filters.

One last question on the subject, why do the chapters work in windows media player 10? Does it handle the filters different? Reason I ask is I wonder if there is a way to use the filters like MP10?

Because he's coded things with all sorts of special case logic for how Window Media Player works, and only partially implemented the directshow IDvdNavigator/IDvdControl/IDvdInfo interfaces I have to use for DVD playback. For example, during DVD playback I call IDvdInfo2->[SIZE=2]GetCurrentLocation() to get the current playback position...sometimes he returns a valid playback position, some times he returns 0, sometimes he returns garbage. I have to be able to rely on this info to accurately skip.

How were you trying to navigate? You'll probably find the typing the channel number and pressing enter works better than using the skip keys, since this is closer to how WMP does things.

Well I haven't tried to enter the chapters and then enter, will give that a shot. What I was doing was right clicking with the mouse and selecting "next" from the drop down menu. I see that the same "right click->next" method works in GBPVR so my question is can I use HIP to send that same command? Any idea how to do this?

To be honest, I'd never noticed that. It must be something entirely done by the ratdvd components. I wouldnt use it this way if I was you.

Too bad, i would love to be able to navigate chapters via the remote.
