I have the same problem as Dekk reported in his thread.
I will explain how I ended up there as follows:
I recently uninstalled a previous version and installed the latest upgrade to GB-PVR. I had never had a problem with the Hauppauge (45 button) changer.
As soon as I upgraded, I got an error message "Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" every time that I tried to use Live TV. Playback worked fine.
I searched here and found a thread noting that this was due to the ".exe changer" not being pointed to an actual IR device.
When I set my changer to "None", I could now use Live TV.
So next, I searched here again and found reference to setting the ".exe changer".
My WinTV folder includes Ir.exe (there is no HaupBlast.exe as mentioned in another thread).
On my XP Start menu, the "Restart IR" shortcut shows: "C:\Program Files\WinTV\Ir.exe" /QUIET
So, I have pointed to that IR.EXE file and I ultimately get the same error that DEKK reports.
In the menu, the remote control moves the cursor up and down without a problem and selects Live TV. I can raise and lower the volume. In Playback, I can use all remote control functions.
BUT as soon as it changes the channel once in Live TV, the focus is lost to the small "IR STARTUP" box which shows the message "Found IR Controller (e2)" If I use the mouse to put the focus back on the GB-PVR window, I can change the channel once more - but get the same message.
<edit> I just noticed that when I change from Playback to LIVE TV, the error message also pops up without touching the remote! <end edit>
I have selected the CONFIG option of "Use direct access to Hauppauge Remote" with IR.exe unloaded... but I got no remote control capability that way.
Google reported no cases of the exact error message. Yahoo and FAST Search report only Dekk's message here on GB-PVR.
I have done my best to not bug you on this without first exhausting my ability to track it down... but any help? Please and TIA!
Paul
P.S. Congrats on the little one! .. and I will certainly understand if it takes you a while to get back on this one.
