Good evening--

All was well with my machine until something bad happened on 4/11 or 4/12. Beginning on one of those days, comskip has begun hanging up and crashing my machine when attempting to process recordings of shows that it's never had a problem with before.

I've upgraded to the latest versions of comskip and GBPVR in an attempt to remedy the problem, but still the same results. Any thoughts as to what I might try?

Comskip hangs up the same way whether I run it manually or automatically.

Thanks!

Bill,

Did you try to downgrade comskip to an older version?
P4 3GHz 1GB, 250GB, nVidia dualTV, GBPVR 1.3.11, XP

Good morning Erik--

I had actually been successfully using a version of comskip that was 6 months to a year old for a long time. Then this problem cropped up earlier this week and I upgraded comskip to try to resolve. In other words, both an old version of comskip and two new versions (30 & 33) have the same issue processing these files.

BTW, I'm the Thanatosil that posted on your Comskip forum too, but I wasn't sure if you monitored this one Smile

Thanks,

Bill

If you are using windows Xp, applications such as comskip should not cause your pc to crash. Perhaps your pc is overheating because the cpu heatsink is clogged up with dust? - bit of a long shot I know..

Good morning gEd!

Longshot or no, I think dust may have been the culprit. After a half-can of canned air, Comskip seems to be functioning again.

I didn't think of that first because

a) everything else is working fine and I hadn't pegged Comskip as being the most strenuous thing I was running

and

b) I wasn't getting any BSODs like I usually see with overheating machines

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, and I'll definitely post if it turns out to be something else, but for now, I'm chalking it up to hardware, not Comskip.

Happy Easter!
