Sound syncronisation

I recorded a movie the other night and the sound was about 4 seconds desyncronised from the video.

The system is a PVR350 and the playback was on the MediaMVP.

a) Anyone know what causes this and what can be done to solve it (its not a normal occurance)

b) Is there any program which can be used to offset audio in a file by a few seconds to correct it?

This shouldn't happen.

If you play back the video with another player is the audio in sync?

What version of the Hauppauge MVP software do you have installed?

womble or mpeg vcr can allow you to do what you want. Cuttermaran might be able to do so as well (and its free),

Sorry, I should have checked on the PC, on first looks it does look like the recording is ok when played back on the PC.

Therefore it would seem to be MVP specific.

I have the recent beta from Hauppauge installed, apart from dongle.bin may I ask does the local Hauppauge software play a part in GBPVR?

I don't suppose there are any alternative dongle.bin's that work with and supported by GBPVR but provide more functionality? Or is it best to stay on the Hauppage path for the time being.

ps. Thanks for the best PVR software on the market, I can't find anything to match it and I'm sure there is still improvement to come.

pps. When the local Hauppage distributor saw what equipment I was buying they personally rang to recommend GBPVR, good to see support for you.

At the this stage you have to use the Hauppauge dongle.bin, and I dont have any plans to replace it. For the most part it does what I need. Wake-on-lan would be nice, but there's not too much more I'd need implemented in dongle.bin.

Does it get out sync all the time? All files? Just after certain actions?

The playback synchronisation is handled by the Hauppauge software running on the MVP (from within dongle.bin). You could try a different version of the Hauppauge software, which may hopefully help.

Thats good. Krome are a great crowd and have been very supportive. They've donated a few bits of hardware to help the out project.

This problem definately seems to be something to do with the way the MVP is working, perhaps with GBPVR.

I've noticed it more and more and suspect that it is related to using the skip function. The audio is about 4 seconds behind the video.

Stopping the video and using the GBPVR resume feature resyncronises the audio and video.

I have seen this happen with some recordings. It would be worth scanning the mpegs for audio/video sync errors. The next one i see this happen with i'll take a look at it.

I'm having the same problem, although without an MVP. I watch TV on my PVR350 and both video and sound are sent to the TV through the PVR350. I clearly notice that the image is lagging behind the sound a bit. This is remarkable because both image and sound (it's in one mpeg stream) can be looped to the PVR350 output without any desync happening. What's going wrong?

I guess image and sound are demultiplexed from the mpeg stream so both of them can be redirected to other devices but the PVR350, right? It depends a bit on the video bitrate and audio bitrate ratio. Also timeshifting makes thing worse. After pausing and playing LiveTV a few times, there is an afwul desync.

I have a Hauppauge PVR-250 and I notice a similar desync problem when I have SBE enabled. Live TV streams start out 2 seconds behind, and the image is always a little behind the sound. After pausing and resuming Live TV streams, it gets worse. It seems to work fine without SBE enabled.

Aside from that quirk, things are working mostly smoothly. I'm having a very good experience with GB-PVR. Thanks for all the hard work!

I've noticed the same thing. It only seems to happen when using the skip button on the remote (not ffwd, but skip). Pushing rewind button once (10 seconds backward skip for me) syncs it back up.

P3, 900MHz, WinTV250, XP Pro w/ SP1, GBPVR 0.21, MVP with latest beta. I do NOT have SBE enabled as my PC apparently can't hack it when viewing on the PC.
