Is anyone working on a torrent plug-in? I've seen mention of it on a wishlist, and I was wondering if anyone has made any progress or come up with any ideas?

What I'm envisioning is something like "Search Guide" that would instead use 1 or more RSS feeds to populate the data. You could then highlight the torrent to download it (on low priority) and when it finished downloading, it would appear in the "Video Library" area. One possible problem is that sometimes torrents aren't in a great format for immediate viewing (might be a bin/cue VCD or something).

If no one is working on this, I would be happy to give it a shot. I've never worked on GB-PVR plugins before, but I am a professional developer by trade, and I think a project like this is fairly reasonable for 1 guy to pull off.

Additionally, has anyone looked into possible 3rd party apps that function well when launched from GB-PVR and can do something like what I described above without having to plug in a keyboard and mouse? I haven't come across a torrent client that is "PVR" friendly yet.

Thanks,

Matt

I agree this would be a great feature. In the meantime, I'm currently running Azureus as a service (so no GUI eating memory or CPU) and administering it remotely via the web-interface (HTML WebUI plug-in). It uses between 1 and 3% of my 1GHz CPU and has no impact on GBPVRs performance. It is set to store files in my GBPVR directories so is pretty effortless to run.

The benefit of the Web UI is that you can paste URL's into the interface without needing to worry about files, so if you find a .torrent you want you never leave your browser. It would be hard to duplicate that useability and offer it from a remote control, unless allowing the user to select from RSS feeds that many torrent sites offer. So I'm guessing the plug-in would still benefit from a web-interface.

This is the batch file run run by Windows Task Scheduler on startup which launches Azureus as a service, in console mode, and allows it to shut down properly on close, and avoids a multi-instance** problem. Of course, you need the azureus HTML WebUI plug in set up first. I think this offers most of what you are after minus the GBPVR interface.

C:
cd ..
cd program files
cd azureus
java -Xrs -DMULTI_INSTANCE=true -jar Azureus2.jar --ui=console

** note, there's only one instance running, but this is a workaround for a bug in Azureus whereby console mode 'thinks' a second instance is running.
