Hi all,

I've a weird problem. Whenever I use FFWD (FF / Fast Forward, not skip), I lose the sound until I stop and re-start. I don't mean during FFWD! I mean after I press 'Play' again and playback speed returns to normal.

This happens during playback of just about any video (tried recording, as well as Xvid AVIs).

I tried with InterVideo decoder as well as the trial version of NVidia PureVideo.
I also tried with 'System Default' and I think this is the FFDShow.

Help?

Thanks,

GGF

When it tries to fast forward faster than 2x, it has to disconnect the audio (it has to since the Windows audio subsystem only allows for audio to go through at a maximum of twice normal rate, and video is pinned to the audio rate). When it tries to return to 1x, it re-renders the audio. Some people get no audio in this situation because of their system fails to find the correct audio filters during the re-render.

I'll stop if from trying to fast forward faster than 2x in the next release, which will stop the audio from being disconnected.

FF/RW will still work like crap though, so I recommend using the short skip option instead.

Hi Sub,

Sorry - not the case here. Only pressed 'FWD' once, then pressed 'Play'. Still no audio after returning to normal speed.

No audio during 2x speed either.

In all previous versions this worked well for me, and my wife loves the 2x feature, because she is able to view a program at 2x speed ( :-) )if it has subtitles (and in Israel all non-Hebrew shows do!).

OT: Instead of eliminating the FWD, could you make it a configurable option and default it to disabled?

Thanks,

GGF

That is the situation I described above. You'll probably see a message something like "Removing directsound" in your gbpvr.exe-native.log

I'm not removing it, I'll just make sure it doesnt try to remove the audio to allow faster FF speeds.

There could be one other cause....

After pressing FF, then pressing play, try pressing and holding the right arrow. Does volume come back?

On a side note ffwd doesn't seem to work on my MCE remote. It kinda pauses tv for a split second and then mutes the sound! And yes right arrow brings the sound back.

Its probably due to whatever video decoder you're using...but as I said above, I recommend the short skip instead.

After having done this right arrow thing once, do you still loose audio next time you do it?

Yes sound is muted every time. I'm using Intervideo decoder but have changed ffwd to short skip now so probably not really a problem anymore!

For me, pressing the right-arrow does not help!
(Maybe it's the fact that I am using my 350's 34-button remote and nemulate is using his 150's 45-button remote).

Help?!

Other details: Using NVIDIA Video / Audio decoders. Happened to me also with InterVideo.
Done some extra testing:

1) Changed to use the InterVideo Audio decoder - FWD doesn't seem to have an effect on video speed. Sound is muted after "PLAY". Right arrow does nothing. Playback took a lot of time to start (~15 seconds)!
2) Changed to "MPEG Audio Decoder" - Playback immediate, FWD works. Sound is muted after "PLAY". Right arrow does nothing.
3) Changed to "System Default" - same as above.

What does that pesky right arrow do?

I spilled (well my gf spilled) lemonade in the Gyration keyboard where the arrow keys are ... when I cleaned it out after it was dried up I hit something and the sound went out.

The right arrow fixed it for me... but what did I do?
