Hi guys,

I'm sure this has probably been discussed before (since I can't imagine I'm the only one this is happening to), but I can't find a thread anywhwere. Is there a way to have GBPVR's play area expanded when playing recordings (and Live TV, I guess, too)? A few of my channels record a line of static at the top of the screen which can be very distracting. I've tried widening my viewing area through my vid-card settings (GeForce 6200) and I can't seem to expand everything enough to get rid of the static line and to also still see everything I need to on the desktop. I'm playing it through my regular television (no HD yet). I'd like to get GBPVR to just play things bigger if I can without expaning the whole desktop. Any suggestions?

If memory serves me correctly these are caused by teletext or CC info in the broadcast. I don't recall anyone having a solution to the problem.

That is what's causing the 'static' . I can see it on some of my stations on my regular tv. The only thing I can think of doing to eliminate it would be to shift the display up until it isn't visible. This is far from ideal as you will be losing some screen real estate and cropping off good parts of the stations that don't show the 'static'.

I've learned to live with it Sad I think it's more an issue with the broadcaster/signal provider than with the GBPVR.

Thanks guys... jeez, I was really crossing my fingers that those weren't the answers I would get. I just switched from having a set up including a Media MVP to a dedicated machine for PVR-ing (and hopefully setting up the Media MVP on a different TV) and I never had a problem with that using the MVP for playback. Does anyone out there have a way of cropping that garbage out (besides the aformentioned moving the screen up)? The WAF has been steadily declining since my PVR 2.0 creation!

There is no way for me to not capture that information during recording. It is part of the picture on those channels. Your regular TV normally hides it from you because the overscan on the tv means its off the edge of the screen.

Have you tried pressing F7 to cycle through the aspect ratios?

Sorry for the newbie follow up, this build is the first time I am using any video besides onboard... I have a GeForce 6200 based card... can I force it to play different applications at different settings? i.e. the desktop would be set one way and then GBPVR would be set another way, then maybe iTunes set another way... yeah, I know... probably wishful thinking... Smile

EDIT: I have not tried the F7 cycle through that you suggest and will try that tonight!

Hi again,

I tried F7 last night and it didn't quite do what I had hoped. I couldn't get the ratio to be small enough to get as much of the screen real estate that I deem necessary and I couldn't get it big enough from that point to lose the line of static. I also have a new interesting problem after changing the ratios using F7. Now when I get it set through F7 the way it used to be (default, I am assuming) and then press either the FF button (on the Hauppauge remote that I have set to short-skip) or the skip button, the screen shrinks down so that there is a black frame around the whole picture. If I stop and restart the recording, it goes back to normal until I hit either fast forward button again. Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Assuming you're using VMR (not Overlay), you can change the defintions of the aspect ratios in config.xml so that it just strips a little bit off the top of the picture. You should be able to perfectly remove just these couple of lines.

You're right, Sub, I am using VMR. I will try to make some changes to the Config.XML file tonight. I had been wanting to go in there to run GBPVR in higher priority mode anyway (I have the stuttering problem like the one being discussed in the top sticky topic also and have tried the older DirectX quartz files to no avail so far). Thanks for taking the time to help me out! Smile
