Hi folks,

I am interested in setting a GB PVR system up. My goal is to record VHS quality video to disk using a guide setup and play it back later. The realtime PVR pause/FF/rewind features would be nice for live TV but not required.

I have a bunch of spare parts lying around the house.

Which of the two motherboards at my disposal should I use?

-ECS 1.1Ghz Duron motherboard
-VIA EPIA 800Mhz MiniITX motherboard

(or are these too slow?)

How much memory would be recommended?

The Hauppauge PVR250/350 are prohibitively expensive here in Canada, but the Leadtek PVR2000 board is very cheap. How is the support for this board?

I also have a LIRC compatible IR receiver and remote. Would it be preferred to buy the Leadtek bundled remote or would a LIRC compatible system be easier to integrate?

Given these components (the Leadtek is the only thing I don't have) is a simple system possible?

Thank you for your time and answers!

The Duron would be fine.

I'm not really familiar with the LIRC IR recievers. You'd probably be able to control GB-PVR via girder using one of these.

Its also worth noting that I havn't tried a PVR2000 board myself, but it is based on the blackbird hardware mpeg encoder architecture and should work fine with GB-PVR. Older Leadtek software encoder cards will not work.

Also remember that the TV2000 is not the same as a PVR2000. They sound similar, but they arn't.
