I tried searching if this has been asked before in the forums but couldn't find anything on it.

I was wondering if it's possible to control gbpvr from another computer over the LAN? I guess what I would like is something like remote desktop connection so that what i see on my screen is what's happening on the gbpvr machine and what is shown on the t.v.

The problem with remote desktop connection is that once you log on remotely, you get logged off locally on the gbpvr machine and on the television, all you see is the user login screen (not gbpvr or the shows that i want to playback).

Anyone have any ideas or understand what I'm asking? lol

Thanks

Have you tried the logging in with remote desktop using the /console parameter?

mstsc /console /V<gbpvr-machine>

Lots of us use VNC. It wont run fast enough to watch video but it great for controling GBPVR or anything else.
GBPVR Server:

Just tried this and it still logged me off locally... and when i logged back on locally, gbpvr had to reconfigure itself.

I've jsut started using VNC.

It's really easy to setup, only takes 2 minutes and it's free.

You'll have totall control, just as good as sitting right at the GBPVR box.

As mentioned it's not for watching video on. But for me that's not an issue.

Wow, something scary just happened. After gbpvr reinstalled itself, it reverted back to this really old version of gbpvr resulted in errors. I had to do a system restore to a checkpoint that took place this morning and gbpvr reinstalled itself automatically and everything is okay now.

Phew!

Thanks for the VNC suggestions A_Brass and Ferral. I'll try that and let you guys know how it goes! Smile

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do have no-ip.com client running on my gbpvr machine so i can webadmin access my gbpvr if I wanted to schedule a program for recording if I'm not at home.

However, what i want to do here is just be able to control what's on my t.v. by controlling my gbpvr machine over my LAN. (I guess instead of using my remote, which i hate because it always needs a direct line of access as oppose to something like RF).

Thanks though Smile and glad to hear you're on a nice vacation.

Yay! Thanks VNC was quick, painless and works as you said "as good as sitting right at the GBPVR box".

Once you are happy with VNC and how it works, you may want to look a the the next step - I run ultr@vnc (same as tipstir) off a usb drive in conjuction with cygwin and PuTTY; this lets me telnet into my PC at home securely from anywhere and not only control my desktop, but control gbpvr ewa, and stream shows over the internet.

Worth a look, and hope this helps.
