Hello guys! well.. i decided to borrow my buddies MCE 2005 remote to test out with GBpvr. I have read thru the HIP install guide from wiki.. my problem is I cant get my remote to change the chan's on my STB. I am near the end of the install guide but my stb wont change chans. can you describe where you're up to with a bit more detail?

have you taught HIP your STBs remote control commands and tested them from within HIP?

if so, have you taught the HIPSend commands to HIP and married these up to your STB commands and tested these?

also, have you got HIP set to produce a beep when it does something(this is in the preferences)? this can be usefull to diagnose where in the chain the process is getting lost.

thats where i'm up to. I am trying to get HIP to "learn" the signals from the remote that came with my STB. but everytime i go thru the wizard, it seems like its "learning" the commands from my remote. but when i actually try to test it by sending the signal to my stb. nothing happens. i see the ir blaster that came with the MCE 2005 blinking.. but the chanel isn't chaning. I know i have the ir blaster positioned correctly on my STB because thats where my buddy has his with his MCE2005 pc and it works like a charm (we both have Sicentific atlanta 2100 STB). its weird... i think the problem might be that HIP is not "learning" the signal from my STB remote control correctly. Any other suggestions?

yeah teaching codes is a bit of a black art frankly. i needed to be quite precise in the length of the codes for my STB, too short and it wouldnt respond, too long and it would overrun into the window for sending a second digit for multiple channel requests. actually i found it easier to teach hip the Mute command, and then moved on to teaching it the number pad commands. you could then use hips test facility and set it to cycle through the mute off/on every few seconds. easier to see how high a 'hit rate' you are getting with the command you have taught.

so i would suggest teaching hip something easy like the mute, and taking note of the length of the commands that HIP is catching, and just hold the button fractionally longer each time you attempt it again. hopefully you'll find a sweet spot where the STB gets enough of the command from HIP to recognize it....

maybe its a specific problem with your STB and the alternative driver then...I know you say your mates works fine with the eHome driver but the alternative drivers fairly quirky.

In the changelog for the new release sub says he's fixed the built-in MCE blaster support, so maybe you should upgrade to 97.7 and give that a blast, see if it works for you? If yo have to switch over to the eHome driver to get the inbuilt blaster support working, you can have my config file for HIP which uses both the eHome driver and HIPs MCE plugin to fill in the gaps.

Either that or try posting over at HIPs forum to see if anyone with your STB is willing to zip their IR codes to you. or look around the net for CCF codes for your box. They are supposed to be more reliable that teaching the code direct to HIP...RemoteCentral is a good place to start
