I installed v0.97.07 of GB-PVR. Everything seemed to go OK. It recorded some shows that I had scheduled with the previous version. However, the changes I had made to my custom1 recording profile had reverted to their defaults.

My MVP was working with v0.97.07, but I had not unplugged it since the upgrade. I downloaded and extracted the 3.0.24088 DONGLE.BIN from SHSPVR, set GB-PVR to use it, then unplugged and replugged the power to the MVP.

It downloaded and started the application. I pressed 'ok' to enter the server selection screen, but it said it couldn't find one. I told it to rescan, and then it found it. However, it never displayed the GB-PVR interface, just kept saying 'connecting to server'.

I tried switching back to the DONGLE.BIN file in the gbpvr\dongle directory, but, although the application downloads, it never connects to the server.

I too am having problems with the MVP connecting to the server after the upgrade. It usually connects once after the PC is rebooted, but if the MVP is put into standby, it won't connect when it is switched back on.
I went back to previus version to test and connects every time.

gbpvr.exe.logs of working previous and failing new attached.

tipstir Wrote:1. Unplug the MVP devices from your network PC
Unplug the ethernet cable, or the power cord on the MVP?
tipstir Wrote:runn gbpvr and reboot the pc
The GB-PVR application, or the recording service?
On my pc, the recording service starts automatically after a reboot.
tipstir Wrote:2. Plug in the MVP devices
3. Restart the GBPVR MediaMVP Server
GB-PVR is configured to automatically start an MVP server; am I meant to start another one manually, somehow?
tipstir Wrote:4. Reboot the PC
How many reboots, in toto, are involved in this procedure? Big Grin

I gave up. I uninstalled 97.07, wiped the gbpvr folder, ran ccleaner, then reinstalled 96.12. It is working fine with my MVP, after I remembered to apply the patch.

Yup, I've given up as well and gone back to the previous version.
The MVP would connect immediately after a PC reboot, but if there was any problem or the MVP was put into standby with the green button it would never reconnect to the server. I don't know if it's a net2 or GBPVR problem, but sadly the family couldn't live with it like it was.

I am having the same problem here. I have tried different dongle.bin's but this made no difference. Going back to 0.96.12 works fine.

Turning windows firewall off seems to of cured my problem, Dont know why this should of had an effect as it was turned on using version 96.12 and i had no problems connecting with that.

Interesting. I use Kerio V2.1.5 (pre-bloat) if I get chance tomorrow I'll turn it off, reinstall 0.97.7 and see if it makes a difference. There's nothing in it's logs that appear to show was blocking any gbpvr data though when I check the other day.

The reason this causes issues now is that the new version utilizes .Net remoting. What's that? Its a way for the GBPVR.exe instances to communicate with the recording service without utilizing the database. This works essentially the same way a web server or FTP server or any other service does. The firewall was blocking the recording service from being able to listen to the instances of the MVP servers (GBPVR.exe) and therefore they wouldn't work. If you add RecordingService.exe (not sure of the exact executable name right now) to the exceptions list, you should be able to turn on your windows firewall and all should still work.

I tried turning the firewall back on and the mvp does eventually connect but it takes about 3-4 minutes, With it turned off it takes about 2-3 seconds , i have had the recordingService listed as an exception, which seemed to work fine for previous versions. Would removing the exception then adding it again make any difference?
